DVD/DVR/HDD/ recorders are hard or nearly impossible to find

We own a Magnavox HDD/DVD/DVR that can record directly from cable or antenna to disk or directly to the hard drive and later transferred to a DVD disc.
When we bought it the price was only about 189.99 but today, it is only available through 3rd parties, used or refurbished, and selling for around 700 to 800 Plus dollars.
I now know that the reason for this is simple, the TV and Cable and Movie Industries do not profit by making it easy for you and I to record to disc or a hard drive that can later be transferred from the hard drive to a removable DVD disc.
That is likely the reason behind Windows 7 having the ability to allow you to connect your PC via an RCA digital antenna and tuner to record high definition television broadcast channels directly and later burn them on to a DVD disc.
Windows 10 removed this feature and provides ways to WATCH TV using special APPS, but not copy them onto a DVD disc.
So, if you are still one of those people who were once very happy to own a VHS recorder and once used to regularly record TV shows on tape, and later became a fan of the DVD recorder, look hard and long. The next time you are out shopping for another or new DVR+DVD/HDD recorder so you can copy and record TV shows it will either not be possible to buy one new, or used and refurbished, but impossible to even find one at all.

A DVR is nice but I loved having tapes stockpiled. A DVR can blow (it's happened to me) and you lose all.

@JohnRoberts~Although it's old fashioned, but that's why I still like DVD's and CD's.

@flpoolbum , I do favor them because they are always dependable and can be kept in a small area of space. The CD business is about to do a 180 I think and that means, time to stock up on both CDs and DVDs.

That is funtastimundo. I think you can actually still buy DVD recorders too at thrift store but as they say, it's hit and miss.

I once had a nice 4 track with multiple speeds and sound on sound so I could record sounds, then get them to record slower and slower until they sounded like space age rocket ships and dinosaurs howling in the moonlight. A whistle could be made to sound like a roaring lion actually and I really want another one of those.
