Happy Saturday all! Any big plans for the weekend? I have one more day/overnight shift before my weekend starts and I am excited to catch up on sleep. After a few weeks my system sure hasnt adjusted to sleeping during the day.
In a few weeks I will be headed, just for about 4 days to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado with a couple of friends for some hiking and sight seeing. I am excited as I have never been to the national park. But... afraid of seeing bears and mountain lions and the like! While we havent decided exactly how ambitious we will be with hiking yet (not sure if we will do any "peak" hikes), I have a pretty good idea of some of the trails we will check out. Me and a friend who have never traveled together are going, so that should be interesting also.
I am loving the customizable Google maps, and created one to map out some hikes and destinations. Does anyone else ever use this? Its a good travel tool!
I plan on picking up some bear mace along the way. Also bought some "hiking whistle" that is supposed to scare off wildlife predators. What else is a hiking essential for you?
Anybig travel plans on the horizon?

I hope you enjoy your trip to the Rockies. We all went as a family a few years ago and visited Colorado Springs, Pike's Peak, Royal Gorge, and several other sights. It was a great time.
No big plans on the future. Just taking our camper to a new campground over Labor Day weekend.

@maezee We took the train and it was a lot of fun, plus saved the aggravation of trying to drive up and the time it would have taken to climb. When you get to the top you'll have to go inside the gift shop on the mountain top and have a donut and hot coffee.

You have an adventurous life! I did some hiking in the past, but only because the group I belong to, did so. No bears or anything dangerous, just monkeys, lots of them. These days, hiking essentials to me are often a raincoat with a giant umbrella (to protect myself from the horrible rain and wind &/or potential big dogs/big drunks).
Pathetic life, right?

Not pathetic at all! The rain gear is a great idea especially if you are in a climate where weather changes quickly. I should probably get some also, thanks for the reminder. I have never been to a region where monkeys are part of the natural habitat. Where was that, if you dont mind sharing?

I am sure that you will have a great time.
The Rockies are supposed to be so scenic, although I have not been to see them myself, I have family and friends who have visited and that was their report.
We're hanging out at our son's house overnight tonight dogsitting for him because he and his wife are out of town for their first wedding anniversary.

@maezee Thanks Maezee I did my Master of Laws in Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Ohio, USA. I stayed with my family for more than 1 year. But in that part it used to snow and rain mostly. I did not get a scope of hiking.

It will be great, just be careful. The only trip I have sort of planned at this point..is to the Outer Banks.
