Thoughts About the Adventure Time Finale

Wow...I still have not seen the entirety of the finale, but I can say there are such intense bittersweet feelings in my heart right now and I'm so overcome with joy. I hope Pendleton Ward is proud of the show he made and the people that he created it with. I'm so ecstatic that Princess Bubblegum and Marceline finally kissed and have been officially confirmed on-screen as love interests. They've been acting more and more like a couple since season 7, but it feels so insanely pleasing for them to get a happy ending as immortal girlfriends. This is a huge step in western animation to have a canon, on-screen kiss between two women, especially since only two months ago Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe got married and kissed on-screen. This has been a great year so far.

I finished the finale and it really did. Just to sum up the end of the episode quickly, it turns out that after the main characters saved Ooo (their world), they just kept on living their lives and centuries later, only their little robot friend, BMO, was around to tell their stories (apparently marceline and PB went somewhere else). At the end, it's revealed that the cycle of reincarnation has continued and the next versions of Finn and Jake are two young adventurers named Shermy and Beth, who discover the new tree that grew where the old tree house got destroyed and the sword made of Finn's (and apparently Shermy's) past lives' energy. Shermy lifts the sword in the same pose as Finn and Jake did in the opening of every show and the cycle has begun again.
