Ten Movies I'm Glad I Saw: Some Like It Hot (#7)

Oh, these three-day weekends. Mid-week comes sooner, the weekend comes more quickly...then ends more quickly, and your mind is fuzzy, thinking that today is yesterday. My mind is still focused on this current countdown, though, ten movies that are critically acclaimed that I finally watched, and was delighted that I did. Here's the next film on my list. #7: Some Like It Hot No, not the Power Station song. Listed on the American Film Institute's "100 Years, 100 Laughs" list as the best comedy film of all-time, Some Like It Hot is a true comedic classic. I wouldn't put it ahead of other films on the list (in fact, there's an upcoming movie on my list that's not even on the AFI list!), but it is hilarious. It's one of the great screwball comedies of all time. Two jazz musicians witness a mob hit and have to go into hiding to save their own lives. The easy way to do that is change genders, so they dress up as women and join an all-girl band that's on its way to Miami for a tour. You can imagine the problems that abound with that scenario, and they all do. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are the cross-dressers, and their biggest problem is the band's lead singer is Marilyn Monroe. It's a hoot. I love it.
