It's Still Scary-Investing The Horror!

I recently started investing and I cringe every time I go to look at how things are going with it. I know there are ups and downs, but I don't like seeing the down at all. Hopefully in the long run I'll see some positive return. The good part is all the funds are not coming out of my pocket. I'm using the money I've made online doing different things. Money I make on my job (tips included) goes to those necessaries and into my savings.

I'm not watching the markets. Just my money!

@andriaperry I always keep in mind something Robert Kiyosaki once said, "They call them brokers because they are broker than you are. One question you have to ask yourself is, if they are so good at managing and investing your money, why are they working for a firm instead of working for themselves?" I don't entirely agree with his assessment, but I do believe nobody will be as careful nor as watchful of what my money does than me. If I can take the time to learn to drive, or do my taxes, or learn a skill to make money on the job...I can take the time to learn to manage my own money.

So long as you feel like you are investing in a solid company with strong fundamentals, short term down swings are simply opportunities to buy more at less cost. Still have to watch it in case the fundamentals change for the worst. But I never fear the down turn so long as I am confident in my long term perspective on the direction of the investment. WORST case scenario, you can also learn the art of shorting stocks—it's how you make money on the way down.

I'm also not spending what I can't afford to lose.

@irishidid Oh, that is KEY. But keep in mind investing is not gambling. It is only gambling if you don't know what you are doing and have not done your research before plunking down your cash.

Yeah, I deny myself a lot because I don't like to spend it.

@irishidid Be frugal, invest wisely, don't spend the principal, spend the PROCEEDS. Words to live by.

I like you saying "good part is that all the money is not out of my pocket".
