I had an argument yesterday that people with autism or Asperger's can't lie.My opinion is that people on the spectrum simply don't have the concept of lying
They are extremely direct especially those with Asperger's syndrome and they are not afraid to tell you the truth no matter what it is
I would love to hear your opinions.

Yes they can lie but they may not understand the concept of lying as we do. I know teaching my daughter right from wrong took more effort than it did my other two. Of course to her everything was literal.

You should really approach this subject with a little more sensitivity.

My son has Aspergers and he lies like a rug constantly-if it means keeping himself out of trouble. He can also be very honest but some people take it as him being a smart allec.

Yes Mike. You are right. There are studies of lying and autism but it was found out that autistic children find it much harder to lie.I suppose that with the time they will become more prone to lies.Autistic brains don't think like the neurotypucal.Trust me.I am a mother of an autistic child.

The point of saying it's a spectrum is that there's a wide range of symptoms/abilities/etc. Just because someone can be blunt and direct doesn't mean that person doesn't have the capacity to lie... they just might not choose to do it, or they might.

I don't see why they can't. I have known one person with Asperger's and he was able to lie, I mean he was able to cheat on a couple of girlfriends haha and I have known many people with various forms of Autism and yes they could lie. My nephew fibbed a lot to his parents. Others lied to get themselves out of trouble. I used to aide special education classrooms and they would lie so they could go play with friends during class or make them seem like they are stupid so they got the easier homework. They are very very smart people, they just learn differently than other people do.

I am not sure. But I think they can lie. Any physically disabled person can lie. I don't understand what is the relationship between lying and a disability.
