A reality check

Now that the kids are back to school, momma needs to start looking for some part time work. To prepare for the job hunt, I found the file containing my resumé. It needed to be updated. Actually, it probably needs a complete overhaul. The last time it was printed was 9 years ago, so while a job needed to be added and an address needed to be changed, i’m pretty sure the whole format is outdated as well. With adding the last job, it is now 3 pages and i’m not sure what information to remove. So I made an appointment with an employment counselor to have it reviewed. After that it’s time to round up some courage to drop off copies and find myself a job. Hopefully it won’t take too long.

Generally, I keep mine down to one sheet of paper. That might be old fashioned but it has always worked for me. I usually include a cover letter if I can prepare one. Good luck. I hope you find something that suits your schedule and is enjoyable.

@Morethanamom I haven't gotten any real advice on my resume in a very long time.

They always told me that 2 pages was ideal. Since I have now worked on and off for almost 20 years, there are more than a handful of jobs on there. I do think I need to adjust the education section, as it seems a bit large.

@koopharper I don’t think I have ever had mine reviewed either, but an organization offers this and employment counseling so I am going to take advantage of it.

Best of luck! My resume is also far too long. Hopefully the counselor can provide some guidance.
