I wrote a story about our Dog Max a few months back about a year ago maybe or so. Max is no longer with us he has to go to a final rest he was not doing well and could not longer walk he was in a lot of pain.
My daughter had a pup left from a litter her dog had and had thought to keep him but a job re-location and move she had to get him a new home. It has been 4 months since Max had left us and we were not looking for a dog but living out in the country. My husband wanted me to have a dog when he is at work.
Xam is Max spelled backwards and they named him for Max our dog because we had a Max they spelled it backwards. We have had Xam for 2 months now. He is one year old and very protective and has claimed me as his person. He is German Shepherd and Catahola/Australian Shepherd mix. His granddaddy is my sons Dog. HIs aunt is my grandsons dog and all three live with us. Sometimes we call him Xeey or Xamo.
Xam is learning to do things like fetch, sit, stay, leave it meaning leave it alone. mind your manners when he is being to boisterious. He loves being out doors, we have him on a run, the same run Max was on when outdoors. Indoors he either lies next to my computer chair or my arm chair in the living room.
If people he does not know come to visit he is wary and initally gets between me and them growling low until we tell him they are okay people then he grumbles and lies down next to my chair or follows me if I get up to go in another room.
He likes to play with his toys. His favorite is a green neon color toy rubber bone that squeaks he will catch it toss it in the air and step on it to hear it squeak.
His favorite treat is a big knuckle bone we get for him. We get one for each dog we have and they usually last for six weeks. We also have rawhide chews for them and doggie treats like Beggin strips.
My grandson takes them all on walks and plays with them and we interact as well. But I do not go on walks much due to bursitis of my hips. I just go short distances. But Xam is loved an a new pet. He does not replace Max we miss Max but Xam is a good loyal companion we hope to have for many years to come.

Aww. Poor Max. Hope Xam is a good dog. (Did you mean Sam?) I miss Marshall but his brother Wylie drives me crazy everyday.
