Florence Preparations

United States

We are towards the top and slight middle of NC. This morning I woke up and made a list of things we would need to be prepared. In Hindsight, I probably should have gotten these things yesterday, but then they may not have been available then either. We went to three different stores looking for water. I bought a big bottle of Fiji Water at the Food Kitty, and went to another walmrat (second of the day) and they had no water at all. There was a lady there kind enough to recommend going to home depot. Instead we went to The Pantry. No, this isn't a place in our house. It's the name of a convenience store, well it used to be. It's long since been changed to something else but will forever be "The Pantry" to the locals around here. We bought three more moderate size bottles of water. I had boiled some water this morning in preparation, and I came home and boiled more and filled up ice trays. We have plenty of flash lights, blankets, and oil for oil lamps if necessary. We are in the lighter orange area of NC for any of those wanting to look at maps. Even so, we need to be prepared for high winds and power outages. I'm cooking tomorrow (if the storm doesn't come in sooner), and we have plenty of food to snack on over the next two days. For those in the path of this storm, get prepared and stay safe. I know there are some mylottes from more Eastern parts of NC and SC.

I always keep water in the house because we are in a hurricane prone area. I was going to message you and ask if you were okay. How is it today?

Very calm. Hardly any winds at all. It will be tomorrow before we experience anything.

@thislittlepennyearns Yeah, he's about two hours away from me. Towards the coast and to the south of where I am. We are going to have a lot of rain, but I think the potential for winds up to 15 mph.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I talked to DW last night and he said the rain was going to be the worst part where they live.

Glad you're all prepared. But hope you won't get more than power outage, if that.

I hope not either. We have trees behind our house. We believe we've gotten rid of the trees that are at the most risk of falling, but one can never be sure. We had a tree fall one winter. Fell right between our house and the neighbor's. Luckily it did not hit either of our houses. The rain doesn't bother me provided it doesn't flood the low lying areas, but it will do some flooding for sure.

I will be praying for the safety of all in it's path. My parents live in Fayetteville/Fort Bragg area in NC. I will have to see where they are on the storm map.

Thank You. We are only expecting heavy rains and winds but they can take their toll just as much as what the coastal areas will get.

I have been watching the storm reports and am praying for all in the path knowing from experience living along the panhandle in Florida the damage a tropical system can do especially of that magnitude

Thank You. I am hoping it won't be as bad as is expected, but people from the coastal areas are already evacuating.

I watch the local weather, the weather channel (which is a national thing) and the national regular news. It keeps us up to date of the patterns of the storm.

I don't think it's expected to impact people that far North.
