People are so addicted to social media or are they?

I find that more and more of my friends and colleagues are using social media online! I find it hard to reach them by telephoning them and was wondering if social media seems to be this way for other people? I have a photo album on facebook for the last ten years as well as newer to Instagram and find all my friends constantly online. It bugs me that I just can't reach them anymore by phone. It seems to me that I've become really dependent on social media and I'm curious as to how many other people rely on social media.
