Medical attendants should be sympathetic

Few days ago, I took my mother to hospital as she was having chest pain. But the receptionist there was very unkind and was busy in talking over the phone. She entered our names after much request. She was getting angry when I asked her when will be our number.
I feel that people working in hospital should be sympathetic as no one goes there just to pass time.
People go there only when its urgent. So don't you think receptionist working in hospital should be sympathetic?

In the US they call that bed side manner as for as health care goes and they supposedly training people here how to get it if they do not have it. I actually think the nurses and receptionists have it here. Its the doctors who need to work harder. I would say half of them anyway. People hate going to the doctor anyway and for some reason they cannot figure out why. Because people hate being sick and people also hate being poked and prodded. They also hate when they sacrificed all their pride when a rude jerk disrespects them and makes them feel smaller than them.

@deba12 They at least trying give them that. I do not know why but always 90 percent of the rich just struggle with basic human decency in a corporate setting. Politicians at least have about 25 percent in my opinion. In this country at least. Why it pays to let the small time people succeed so they can fix the problems and know where the poor are coming from. Rich people from a rich family hardly ever go outside their comfort zone and make the world better overall. Why you need poor people to succeed.

In the first place they should know that they are into care services.

i agree. but maybe those are just isolated cases.
i have my duty in a hospital and the staff nurses and doctors show care and concern to the patients, more often abused by the significant others though

Here, if that happens, we can report it and that person will be heavily reprimanded or will be dismissed from the job.
So, people here from sales clerk , employees and specially those in the government are mandated to be kind to all customers irrespective of their statuses.

I don't find the reason behind their haughty attitude. You are right.

I agree with you BUT they are human beings and I am sure her talking on the phone was business and maybe, just maybe, a very annoying person on the other end. That doesn't justify her being rude but maybe, because you were worried about your mother, you were short with her?

Wasn't my worry obvious? They should have patience and should not lose their temperament easily.

Yes. Here they might be kind and sympathetic but most patients still have to wait a lot longer than they want to even then. It's common to wait two to four hours and that's in a smaller city. Someone will do preliminary tests first like blood and temps but unless someone is showing signs of stroke, heart attack or bleeding, waiting will be the next step; other than the rare days when there's not much happening in the ER.

I think the receptionist was very rude. Your mother could have been very ill indeed. It must have been a nasty experience for you both.

I know it will be useless to complaint. Moreover, I was nervous due to my mom's health.

Yes, in many countries hospitals are a problem. Best to look after our health and try to prevent as much as possible.

It is chest pain. No matter what she’s doing she should’ve dropped it and prioritised your mum. She should know what a medical emergency looks like when she sees one. She works for a hospital for goodness sake.

They should be professional in dealing with patients. If they act negatively, they add stress to the patients and their families.
