Last Evening I Felt Exploited

What has never happened in our organization happened yesterday. We are an apolitical welfare organization working for orphans and the aged. We have kept ourselves free of political influence for the last 40 years. But, yesterday a group of people offered to give our orphans toys and copybooks. They didn't make it clear that they were a group of members of the ruling party at the centre. Yesterday was the birthday of the Prime Minister Modi. This group brought a cake and made our orphans sing " Happy birthday to you". This, I felt, was a subtle yet brazen act of their agenda of spreading their political influence through us. The Director and the Superintendent realized it late. But, next time, I hope they will be careful.

I understand how you feel, that's absolutely a brazen and hypocritical strategy, believe me that happens everywhere in the world where politicians exits. Here we can see that kind of actions during election campaings. But they forget about the needy once they have achieved their ambition of influence.

That's a shame they did that without you realizing what was happening until it was too late.

It's very hard, I imagine, because the kids did not realise what it was about, only the fact that they had cake and were singing together, and you guys would have felt that you could not have stopped their happiness, even once you realised, because it would have made the kids sad.. Subtle politics- a very dangerous form of politics indeed.

Nice way to celebrate the birthday of Modi. But, don't let your institution get influenced by political parties. You are doing a good thing. Go on doing that.
