Taal is a complex volcano located in Luzon, Philippines. It has a massive caldera called Taal Lake and It takes roughly 25-30 minutes by boat to reach the main Volcano Island.
We took “Daang Kastila” trail, it is the most common trail to reach the Crater Lake. The terrain is dusty, there’s not much tree shades so hikers are exposed to the sun. There are also horse manures scattered on the way so we need to be careful where to step. Visible steam vents are proof that Taal Volcano is still active. There’s another secret trail to reach the Crater Lake, it takes much longer to get there from the dock, but having a quick dip in sulfuric water will surely be exciting!
Quick tips:
Things to bring: (waterproof all your stuff especially your gadgets!)
Water – enough for a 45-60 mins hike
Trail Food – peanuts, raisins, jellies etc.
Packed lunch/Snack – or you may buy from the stores at the summit
Camera – documentation of your precious memories ?
Extra clothes & towels
Sunblock – and umbrella if you want
What to wear:
Comfortable clothes
Proper footwear for hiking
Face mask to avoid dust from volcanic ashes
You may also wear a hat, pair of sunglasses, arm warmers and high socks.
