This is interesting for me.Every day I learn a new word fine. But then I forget about it.Why because the new word that I learn is never use in my language Some sticks with me and some don't. Learn any new word through out the day.

Here is a new word for you Alfredo. It is a Welsh word! Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. I doubt you could even say it let alone spell it. (True not a joke)

@amadeo It is the name of a village in Wales. Translated it means "Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave" Very interesting: There is a joke about a tourist who was in a restaurant in the town. She asked the waitress if she could tell her very slowly the how to pronounce the name of this place. The waitress said very slowly. B-u-r-g-u-r K-i-n-g..

You forget we are so smart and so many years of 'smarts' and words in our head that we have to dig through them to get them out!

You need to put the new word in context and write a few sentences with it to remember it better.

Yes every now and again, but like you, if I am not using it, it fades into the oblivion for me.

sometimes I do, most I forget..and some I remember. I ran across the Portuguese word Obridgado recently and it means Thanks. I thought that was interesting because there is an Obrigado restaurant in town. It has decent food.

I think that if we learn a new word or two we have to somehow incorporate it into a sentence or two to make good use of it and maybe then we'll remember it.

I'm trying to use words I'm not used to using in my writing. It helps to remember to use them in everyday life.

You need to use them every day so you won't forget. But it doesn't work for me. Hahaha. Sadly, I tend to forget things easily.

Sometimes I learn new words. I used to play look up a word and see what it means with my grandchildren. They had fun doing that.

My senior year in high school, the English teacher was a stickler about teaching us new words. Every week she'd give us ten new words to look up in a dictionary and learn. Some of those terms, I've never seen them used once! Other words she gave us, I use them at times.
