An interesting poem, "Mirror" by Sylvia Plath

I just read an analysis of the poem "Mirror" by Sylvia Plath. I'm not that into poetry, but I was struck by how much this poem reflects an experience we all share as human beings. For me, the first four lines are especially powerful:
"Mirror" by Sylvia Plath
"I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions.
Whatever I see I swallow immediately
Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.
I am not cruel, only truthful"
We look into the mirror hoping for reassurance that if not beautiful, we are at least ok. But the mirror is merciless. It is not motivated by love or even by hatred - it simply reflects reality. And many times that reality is not what we desire it to be, especially as we grow older.
"Mirror" was written in 1961. Tragically, Sylvia Plath committed suicide just two years later.
(Note that there is much more to this poem than the four lines quoted here)

No, mine always shows me such unflattering pictures that I'd says it's excessively dumb.

I read the Bell Jar once, many years ago.

I purchased it many years ago. I don't remember how much of it I read. I think it may still be in a box down in the basement somewhere.
