Illegal Immigration: If a baby is born to a woman who is in the USA illegally, should he or she be considered illegal?

There was a time that when a baby was born in the USA, he or she was considered to be a legal citizen. Yet, so much has changed. We have so many illegals here. In the recent past, if you were illegal but had a baby, you were staying. Nothing could separate you from that baby. You were both going to stay. If you could not work and did not know the language, the state would support you. Very nice ride. Things are changing. Illegal mothers and fathers are being separated from their legal children. Of course, the government is considered to be at fault. I disagree. If you come here illegally, and having a child here makes the child legal, you are still illegal. I don't think children should be separated from their parents, but I also don't think that if a child is born to an illegal mother, that the child should be legal. The child was born to an illegal mother and should be considered illegal. They should both be sent back.

To my knowledge America is the only country even to have this policy of babies automatically being US citizens. No other country allows that and with good reason - it does away with confusion. I think a child should be whatever its parents are.

I agree with you. That makes sense.

The law state is your born here that means your a natural citize no take backs on that one. If a child is born here I think inthe parents or parent is illegal that they should choice if their child stays or goes with them back home. As a mom I would hate to be away from my child but if living some where was better for them and I knew someone would take care of my child the way that I would want them I would leave my child in their care Or give up my parent rights so my child could be adopted.

@ShyBear88 What I am saying is that if a person enters a country illegally, they must accept the consequences no matter what they may be.

I think Jesus would tell them not come come over here illegally. Proverbs 22:8 Whoever sows injustice will reap calamity, and the rod of his fury will fail.

I agree and disagree at the same time. Yes, the mother is illegal and should be considered illegal even after she has the child. However, the child, being born here, makes that child a US citizen. According to what I remember from school, it's automatic. Now, what I'm guessing at is that the mother comes here, just to have her child so the child can be a US citizen. Is that right? No, and in that case the child, though born in the US, should still be considered a citizen of the country the woman came from. I know some children have dual citizenship when they're born. That should still be the case and the child should go back to the country the mother came from. Those are my thoughts on the matter.

Yes, it is automatic that the baby is a citizen if he or she was born here. The problem is that if the baby inside the illegal mother's womb was brought here to be born a citizen of the USA, that is deceitful. I think that if a mother's is caught living here illegally, she should be sent back. With all the hoopla over parent's and children being separated, I think the children should with the parents and go back with them.
