I just came inside from walking Doodles. While waiting for him to finish looking for a chipmunk, mouse, or shrew, a squirrel came right up to me with another squirrel in its mouth! I thought it was looking for help. I don’t know if the squirrel was dead or ill, but I couldn’t touch it. All I could do was apologize and tell the squirrel how terribly sorry I was. It walked right by Doodles, who looked at me in confusion. We followed it to the woods, where I hope it was buried. Two minutes later they were scampering up and down the trees. Go figure! I’m still shaken, but have to meet my friends for my morning walk.

What a beautiful story That must have been the baby squirrel it was carrying in its mouth. I have seen cats doing it

This “baby” was as large as the squirrel! It freaked me out so much! I thought it would drop it at my feet, since it came within two inches. I kept backing up, too. It took a long time for me to stop shaking. So weird! Only could happen to me.

Not sure what that squirrel was up to....maybe it was a diversionary tactic? It certainly kept Doodles from chasing it. Nature can really make a person wonder sometimes @DianneN . Hope you had a good walk with your friends, Dianne.

@DianneN oh, shame, sorry you have seen that. I am also glad it lived. Just a very unsettling business it was. Here spring is also upping our heat quicker than we expected. Bundle up warm when you head out, Dianne. xoxix

That must have been one crafty squirrel then. Lol! It really freaked me out when it walked right up to my feet. The walk was invigorating. It was very cold at first, until I warmed up from the hoofing it so fast. Thank you!

@bluesa Gary Marrsh thought it could have been unconscious, which is very possible. It may have fallen out of a tree and hit its head on a stone wall. We've seen them fall off telephone lines and die on the road. I'm relieved that it lived - after the fact. Lol! Fall certainly didn't mess around here. The leaves are already changing colors! xox

With help, we figured out that the squirrel may have been knocked unconscious from a fall from a tree. Thank goodness it was ok. I couldn't scream, because I can't frighten Doodles due to his heart condition. It was hard not to . Trust me!

You've been tricked by a squirrel! When I was walking in the streets of Bangkok with my friend, a squirrel suddenly passed by and my friend screamed and ran away. I asked here why, and she told me she's really scared of them. But I find squirrels really cute.

@amadeo I can imagine! Doodles only caught one when our son bought his other new house. Doodles hid it under the deck, and our poor son had to use the brand new snow shovel my husband had just given him to remove that mangled, bloody squirrel. Did Ms. Ruby do a number on her squirrel? She must have been very proud of herself! lol

Gary Marsh suggested that it could have been unconscious. I think (now) that it may have fallen from one of our very too tall trees and knocked itself out on a stone wall or even the ground. At least it's alive. I was in shock when it came up to me with a full grown squirrel in its mouth. There is never a dull minute around here!!!!
