That's a Day I'll Never Get Back

Today started off with such promise.
I woke up before the alarm, got ready and out the door in plenty of time. Stopped and picked up breakfast. Had time to eat before my ride arrived to pick me up at the school.
Then my ride showed up. She was having car trouble and could I drive. I drove.
Traffic getting into Raleigh was slow but not the worst I've seen. Mass with the Bishop was nice. Then came the sessions.
The first session I attended on the new math curriculum for the Diocese consisted of telling us that nothing much had changed and directions on how to reach the online Live Binder with the new curriculum posted on it. The only positive thing to come from it was that I earned Continuing Ed credit for showing up.
Lunch followed. Catered box lunches were available and they were actually pretty good. Mine was a grilled chicken sandwich with garlic seasoned mayonnaise, a bag of potato chips, and two chocolate chip cookies.
A session on the 6+1 Writing Traits came after lunch. Again, it was mostly a tutorial on how to access the Live Binder with the documents for the student portfolios. Another hour of Continuing Ed credit.
The last session of the day was interesting-ish. It was about using alternative seating in your classroom. By alternative seating they meant using an eclectic mix of tables, couches, chairs, and cushion instead of desks and regular chairs. This idea holds promise. My third hour of Continuing Ed credit in the books.
We finished around 3pm and were able to get out of town ahead of most of the weekend traffic.
So how was your Friday?

Eclectic seating sounds interesting. When I see how teaching has progressed from my days in school ( back in the stone age) I almost wish I could go back to school

The school where Vince was Business Manager had a Head of English who achieved excellent results with senior students. They had lounges and beanbags in the classroom. He had come from the school from the curriculum department of the West Australian school system. Later they discovered he had fudged his CV and had none of the qualifications he claimed he had. I guess he really had a great gift as a teacher.

The best part is getting to see the teachers from the other schools. We're spread out all over central and eastern North Carolina and only get to fellowship at events like this. Sadly, many of our colleagues from farther east could not make it.

You got a lot of credits!
I went grape-picking and came home with two pails of grapes. I have been eating grapes all day. All in all it was a grape day!

@DWDavis I'm not really sure what kind of grapes they are but a friend has some in his backyard and does not want them and is glad that I harvested them.

I remember way back in elementary school, there was a year where the teacher placed all of our desks in a way to form two long desks. Or maybe that year it was an actual table.
I think a more comfortable (somewhat more "homey") work environment would beneficial to both children and teacher. However, not too comfortable as to promote sleepiness!

I like the new seating idea. School always seemed far too regimented to me.

Back when kids had longer attention spans than hamsters, they could deal with the regimentation. Studies show that as a result of the way media on TV and the web is presented to them, the average child's attention span these days is 3 to 5 minutes.

Its been a quiet Friday though I did drive over to the town north of me to pick my hubby up from the doc. We went to a little book-sandwich shop for an early supper and then walked a little cause its almost summer temps this afternoon.

I had a mystery shop to do on Friday..I was a bit leary as someone was warning me prior to going about traffic in the area. I went early enough though and came back early enough..that I was not caught in rush hour so that was a help!

Just some routine unexciting errands for me today.
