Some of you would probably be familiar of lechon. It is typically a whole pig roasted and served as a whole in Filipino and some Asian banquets.
To some foreigners it may look disgusting and unappetising. Just because if you see the whole pig with it’s head it looks a bit scary.
I’m not a fan myself as I find it too oily, but I do love to eat the crispy skin. The photo below is a more palatable looking version of lechon. It’s boneless and crispy lechon.
We had it yesterday for my grandparents house fiesta and all the guests loved it. Have you guys tried lechon? How about it’s boneless counter part?

I would eat " lechon " anytime, anywhere be it regular, " de leche ", with paella or that boneless version but in moderation.

Hahaha a true blooded Filipino! And nice touch with “moderation”. I only really just love the crispies :)

Well since you love lechon you’re in luck for the Christmas’s holidays. Do watch out of the fats and cholesterol. I think you should do your holiday prep exercises

If not for my cholesterol levels being high i love to munch that yummy looking lechon myself. But looking at the picture it more looks like it was deep fried than that being cooked slowly over charcoal fire. But then I know that would be delicious.

Every year I roast a pig, head and all. Nobody ever seems to mind, and all the meat gets eaten. I, too, like eating the crispy skin.

@moffittjc I know right. I mean it’s common courtesy. If the girl didn’t mind him eating then it’s okay if he doesn’t eat it. But it was obvious everyone was upset.
I was put in the same situation before when I was doing my clinical placement in an aboriginal community in Australia. I was forced to eat kangaroo.
But hey, he’s free to have choices. It’s just that it wasn’t the best first impression for the family.

@flapiz That guy was a wimp! He should have ate it, even if he didn't like it. He should have done it just to impress the girl and her family.

We're feasting for whole lechon yesterday. It's another health watch that was broken because it was set aside and indulge for the meanwhile. I think roasting is better than other way of cooking because it allows oil to drip oil causing it's reduction but the fact is the fat is still there.
Lechon belly is now becoming common and it tastes good too.

Hey Ed! I still think it’s really too fatty. But I am not much of an oily food lover as I have gall bladder issues when I eat too much fat.
It’s okay to break health watch sometimes. We got to take some risk when we are able to. But I don’t think a daily feed of lechon would be good for our arteries.

that one looks more of a bagnet than lechon because it looks deep fried.

@flapiz I guess that is the marketing term they decided to go with.

@CaptAlbertWhisker Yep alternative to those who are scared of the real lechon :)

Well it does look like a crispy pata to be honest. But the box says crispy boneless lechon.

i wasn't fond of it, either, and preferred lechon paksiw or lechon kawali. but eventually i started to like it, too, if the sauce/gravy is really good.

Well everybody has preferences. I’m guessing your pretty slim considering you don’t like pork and as you mentioned you also don’t like sweets.
