I grew up outside of NYC in the New Jersey suburbs. I would go in a couple times a year. Christmas is always a fun time to see the Rockafeller tree and store windows. I LOVE Broadway and highly recommend trying to see a show. One thing that most people don't know is that up in the northern tip of Manhattan there are the 'Cloisters' which are European buildings from the Medeval age that were taken down stone by stone and sent to America to be rebuilt. They are really neat. Go in the Spring or summer though, when the gardens are open. I think those are some of my NYC favorites!

Yes, it is very expensive. Friends of my son's had a little apartment there last summer. When he visited the only place for him to sleep was at the end of their bed. They were paying $1700 a month for it and considered that a good deal. I'm so used to larger, cheaper homes that I don't think I'd ever want to live there.

Last Christmas I was there. My friend from New York took me and another mutual friend site seeing around Manhattan. It was beautiful! The Christmas decorations in the windows were amazing and brought imagination and child-like wonder back to life! They depicted all sorts of fairy tales and Christmas stories. It was a magnificent city and I felt beautiful just being there. I wish I could stay in a hotel in the heart of Manhattan – but that will have to wait since it is quite an expensive place to stay there. Hotels and apartments are top dollar. I definitely want to go back again, probably at a different time of year.

I love New York, New York . . . So nice, they named it twice.
It has been some time since I was last there . . . perhaps it's time to plan another trip. Manhatten I loved, all the energy, excitement and action. I understand the streets are much, much safer these days.
The stores are great, the skyscrapers are something else. And I lve breakfast on Times Square watching all the commuters haeding for work.
If you are thinking of making a trip to New York City . . . don't put it off. Fifth Avenue is super duper for Christmas shopping.

I think there's a lot to do if you can afford to pay for it. I had an online friend who lived there. She offered to find us a hotel room right down in Manhatten. We told her $150 would be about the right price for us, and she said you couldn't even get a room in a dive for that. In the end, we didn't go. She said a decent room would be at least $300 a night.

Oh, I think the cheapest place I know is the Golden Gate hotel, right past Sheepshead bay in Brooklyn. It's $100 a night, and it's pretty close to the train station, which will take you anywhere you want for $2, and $2 to get back. Not a bad deal if you ask me. :P

I've been in New York state, too, but never into the city. I've been to Niagara Falls several times and to states that I had to travel thru New York to get to, but no one who was driving ever wanted to tackle NYC. I think maybe my husband and I will take a bus trip so that we don't have to worry about driving, maybe in the spring.

i was born in Queens new York and lived there till i was 20. It was very different from here in Florida. the foods are so much better, i miss New York pizza, bagels and lots of other thing i grew up with. you should go if you ever have the chance to. And go into the city to eat and see a play, i miss that too.

Hah this is something I know a lot about. :P I've lived in NYC for... almost 1o years. It's not the place for me because I'm not a fan of big cities, but it's a very fun place to visit. Many places in Manhattan are exactly the way you see them on TV: hoards of people everywhere, cars and taxis beeping and yelling, and huge tall buildings. Not everywhere's like this, of course. I go to NYU, which is right at the beginning of Greenwich village, by Washington Square Park, and it's such a different atmosphere. Still a lot of people, but they're all really friendly. If you so much as look lost, someone will ask if you need any help. And there are a lot of... interesting people, too. I've seen a guy with a parrot on his shoulder, and another man in a giant chicken suit. o_O
And people forget the other boroughs! I love Brooklyn the best because it's calmer and it's where I live. And if you go far enough into Queens, it's like a whole different planet. If you ever come and visit here, I recomment going to the different places here, not just the main tourist attractions, especially if you want to see what life here is really like. And definately take the train! x)

New York is the best place in the world ,and greatest place to go I love it and will never leave by my decision. You can do anything whenever there are always tons of people awake doing something. There are all types of things to do if you can think it up you can do it just go to NYC.

New York City is amazing. I had wanted to live here since I was a little girl and I finally got the oppertunity when I was accepted to New York University. I would say if you come in, know what you want to see before you get here. There is a lot to do and having a plan makes it a little more possible. I recommend the eyewitness travel guide. Times Square is of course amazing and everyone goes there. If you want to see the statue of liberty, try the statin island ferry. It is free, but it does not stop at the island. honestly though, you get a better view and stopping is a little disappointing. I am partial to Greenwhich Village, but I would say there is more to see around mid-town.
