Spies Everywhere. What a Shock!

Last night, I saw an ad that really made me wonder what on earth is going on with the spies everywhere. I forgot what the ad was for, but at the bottom of it, it suggested that I buy this thing for my boyfriend, Jerry. Jerry was my husband before he passed on in 2016. I have never put his name online anywhere as Jerry. He had a family nickname that I always used online. So how did the advertiser know that I was connected with Jerry? This really spooks me, I was astounded by how much they have intruded into my life. What would you think if you saw something like that? Has it ever happened?

Possibly an old tracking cookie. The US has low standards when it comes to respect privacy, FB has been sentenced several times in the EU for intrusive cookies, they paid the fees and continued to use them. If it comes from FB it is useless to clean the computer, as the cookie will be back as soon as you will open FB, and preventing it to be installed would block FB.

@akalinus The cookie is associated with the info collected on you, it is why those intrusive cookies are dangerous.

@topffer I know, but cookies are everywhere and I don't think we could proceed on the internet without allowing cookies.

I have understood that FB actually sells our information to the highest bidders and have done so more than once. There is no way the cookie would know that name, though. Of course, it does now.

May be you mentioned him in one of your email, or on FB, our data are not safe online. Do you know that the FB accounts have been hacked again a few days ago?

That might be so. So much stuff is hacked these days that it is hard to keep track of it all.

They are stupid spies ...they don't know that your husband passed away, and they do not know he was your husband. I think they got information from something that showed him as boyfriend...something before your marriage. If you want to waste time and money finding out who it was, be my guest. But I would say forget them, they still do not have puzzle in order.

Yes, you are right. I'm not planning to spend time and money finding out. They did get it wrong so they aren't as smart as they think they are. It was just a shock to see that they knew the name. I wonder what else they will come up with.

That is a worry but there are some logical explanations in the comments.

I am pretty sure my phone hears everything I say. I usually keep it near me in case I need it. It probably heard me say I love you and assumed he was my boyfriend.

It was really weird to see it. It took a few minutes for it to sink in that they are doing this. I was shocked.

It happened to me like someone called my number even if i didnt post it on fb. To make the story short, someone i knew gave my number to that caller. Perhaps, same thing happened to you,

@akalinus you can block them. Or you may create a new account and invite only your immediate family, a private account just for you guys.
