What an awful thing to happen!

I read about this story the day it was first put on the news, and the newest update to the original story really upsets me. A 49 year old woman was permanently blinded in her right eye as a result of a golf ball being hit , but missing it's intended target and hitting her in the eye at the Ryder's Cup. Golfer Brooks Koepka was the player who hit the doomed shot. The woman said she didn't feel pain at first, until blood started pouring forth from her eye. She was rushed to the hospital and it was determined the stray ball had exploded her eyeball and damaged the eye socket. Even though the golfer, Brooks Koepka was upset it happened and apologetic, she plans on suing the whole operation. I would sue too. As I thought about how bad this incident is, how this mid age woman lost her eye, I did think, that the whole thing could have been worse. If she had been standing in a different position and the ball had hit her in the head, she could have been killed. So, she was lucky she only lost her eye and not her life.
Corine Remande, 49, says her "eyeball exploded" after being caught by Brooks Koepka's drive on the sixth hole on the tournament's opening day Friday.

I play golf and accidents do happen - in any sport. The best thing would be for the organization to pay for any hospitalization and care costs for the woman with a hefty bonus.

It might be a good idea to put up netting.

this is such an awful accident. I could not imagine the impact of the ball hitting the eyes. The organizers should cover the costs of all this.

@LeaPea2417 I dunno but if I had to guess I would say that poor lady either has bad karma or even worse past life karma! Do righteously or you could poke your eye out!

Wow, that's sad. As long as she was in a designated area ( I'm sure she was ) then I can't say that I blame her at all for wanting to sue. I've seen many golf tournements and have always wondered if anyone has ever gotten beaned by a ball.

This is a terrible news. A golf ball has an incredible speed, this is why I do not like to stay too close to the players.

That's very sad. I can't see that she'd win a court case but I guess she wants to try.
