About 80 years ago when my grandfather had come to this town it was a non-descript village located amidst jungles. He chose a place to build his house. Eighty years later now when I hear people complaining about the inconveniences in their localities,I feel proud of my grandfather's wise decision. Our house is at a place which is neither in,nor out of this fast developing town.It is neither congested, nor lonely. The main, busiest square of the town is hardly 100 meters from my house and clearly visible. The police station is hardly 200 meters away. You can buy anything - from a needle to a computer and from snacks and sweets to bicycles and cloths from shops that are just a stone's throw from my house. You hardly need 5 minutes to visit a doctor's clinic and buy medicines from medical stores that are at the main square itself. You can also buy fresh vegetables at the square.Everything you need to survive is available here. And still it is perhaps the most peaceful place of the town. There is a vast open ground right in front of my house which is railway's property, but railway does not have any plan to build any office there. It has been unocoupled since even before my birth. As teenagers we used it as our football ground and now children play there. My grandfather passed away before my birth, but whenever I see my house,I remember him and thank him for choosing this place for his house.

Many villages in India have turned into towns and good things of comfort have come near. The place I live too (Kanchrapara, 50km from Kolkata)has fast developed. I live outside the town but my village is well linked with the town with pucca roads.

Is it a "Haveli" or "Kothi" sort of house with big courtyards and garden? You would be requiring some renovations though?
