How Do You Manage Your Anger?

Whenever I get angry I try to remain as quiet as possible because I wouldn't like to offend anyone with my words. I then move away to solitude until tempers calm. Usually I say a few words to express my feelings, and then remain dead silent. Argument makes matters worse, so I leave. Friends, do you think it is a helpful approach to anger? How do you manage yours?

It's a good idea to leave. I do the same.

@dya80dya Wow. You must be a very cool dude. Thumb up. You showed maximum respect for your dad. I believe later he'll ponder over the issue and make apologies if he faulted

@GovindaB I think defending yourself in a minimal discussion is much better than to be angry because I believe in the saying " You can`t think right things when you`re angry"

@m_audrey6788. Sometimes you've got to be angry to defend what's yours. Do u agree to that?

I hold it in too. I also don’t get wildly angry either. People who get loud and angry disgust me.

Me too. Especially when the anger is directed to kids. I don't like yelling at those little dudes.

@dya80dya It's funny but sad to see kids picking up and acting out "bad" mannerism from adults

A pastor once said that if you're angry with your brother, count up to 10 first before saying anything. If you're angry with your son or daughter, count up to 30 before saying anything. Finally, if you're angry with your wife, count on and on :)

@GovindaB You're welcome :) I can be funny at time but actually I can be serious about many things. Life is a continuous learning process and I'm sure you'll learn much as you mature.

I mostly do that as well. Breathing can also calm you down. Some says that anger can somehow be triggered by the lack of oxygen coming in your brain that is why when you are angry you tend to become irrational and can make you unreasonable at times. So the first thing you do is to fill your body with oxygen to clear your mind. Talking about it after anger is out is the best way to resolve things out.

Wow. Why not take shower only? That way you will automatically wash your face. Besides, what happens when it occus at workplace or school where there usually are no such facilities?

Seriously, it's better to shut up so arguments would not escalate. A friend of mine (this is true) before told us that when he had an argument with his wife, he'd get out of the house and go see a movie. When he comes home in the evening, a nice dinner has been prepared by his wife.

@GovindaB Yes, it differs from person to person or couple to couple. What might be effective for one might not be the same case for another. I guess my friend had already a good psychology of his wife and they simply loved each other that they're able to move on from any argument and continue living harmoniously.

. When you get angry, before you take any angry action, first count 1 to 20. By the time u reach the 20th count, u might have calmed down
