Adding or replacing Flash memory - switching from 16 to 32 GB thumb drive

Flashdrive in a USB 2.0 port on a laptop PC - Can you replace a 16 GB with a 32 GB thumb drive? The Lenovo I gave to my wife has only a small amount of flash memory. I had to add an additional 16 Gigabytes of flash memory through the use of a memory stick or thumb drive that enabled the laptop to work with upgrades of the Windows 10 Operating System, because without having additional flash memory, her laptop could not be upgraded to the latest version of Windows 10. I want to remove the thumb drive - connected via a USB 2.0 port on the laptop, as it only has 16 GB of memory. I want to find a way to connect a newer blank 32 GB memory stick or thumb drive to the other USB 2.0 port, - copy the data from the 16 GB flash memory stick and transfer it to the new 32 GB flash memory stick and then remove the 16 GB flash memory stick after erasing it. The reason is: The laptop only has 2 - USB 2.0 ports. The two ports, if both are used to extend memory using flash drive thumb drives, then there will be no additional USB ports to handle an external device such as a backup drive that might be able to support additional memory requirements as the external drives have been made to contain lots more memory from 1 TB up to 4 TB. The funny thing I have to deal with is that by putting in a second thumb drive, the two flash memory sticks or thumb drives are too bulky to fit next to each other as the space between the two USB ports is too close to allow both thumb drives to go into their respective USB slots.
Roger has bought a 1TB USB memory stick for only £8.99 and wonders if he could use it as a day-to-day drive

Something like this would solve the problem of the two sticks being too wide for side by side use. http://a.co/d/7Go4e3z

@lookatdesktop I've been in a similar predicament and a cable like that came in handy.

You can buy a usb hub to put several flash memory sticks on it. The SD card port may or may not accept SDHD above 16Gb, but the stick on an usb port may be any size, so I would go for a 64 or 128Gb memory stick, it would be more convenient than a hub for a laptop.
