Today is an oldie but goodie song. I recognize the song with only the first few notes. Whiter Shade of Pale by the band Procol Harum debuted this song in 1967. This particular video was restored and seems to be the original. Since then many artists have done this song. I prefer the original. Rarely has a song proven so troublesome. A Whiter Shade of Pale, surprisingly declared by the BBC to be the most played song in public places in the past 75 years, has also famously been the subject of a bitter feud between founding members of Procol Harum. This is the only backstory I could find. Do you remember this song? Do you have a favorite song to share?

@CarolDM The songs of the 60's were so much better than modern songs.

@LadyDuck Yes they were and I didn't start listening until the late 70s and 80s to rose songs.

I have heard this song thousands of times since it first came out in 1967. Great song! Today I was in a shopping center and they were playing another great song that I like. .
"Ruby Tuesday" was featured on the American release of the 1967 album, Between The Buttons. This version features Mick Jagger on vocals, Keith Richards on gu...

I love this song and Proco Harum. It's sad that they're fighting about it now. Your into to this one, "Today is an oldie but goodie song. I recognize the song with only the first few notes," reminded me of Name That Tune. Did you ever watch it? I could usually guess the song from the clue but hardly ever from the notes.

@CarolDM That's a good talent. I need a lot more than just three or four notes to recognize a song.

Yes I did watch it and miss that show now that you mentioned it. It was so much fun. I am really into music and can usually name the tune pretty quick.

I don't from the 60s, I started in the 70s and 80s listing to it. And love it still.

A classic tune. Believe it or not, the other day a radio station here in Denver actually played a Procol Harum song that wasn't this one. I was shocked.

I have loved this song as long as I can remember, Carol! It was a little before my time so I kind of grew up with it. I think the 45 came on 'permanent loan' from a mate's big brother

It was one of my favorites as a "troubled teen" in the 1970s.
