The word onychoschizia, is the term for my problematic fingernails.
Over the last two months, I have noticed my fingernails peeling.
I have never had nail problems before:
I don't use any nail polishes, I don't bite my nails, and I have no idea why this is happening at my ripe young age?
My hands are a mess to look at with just 38 days to the wedding - I need help and quickly too!
I have even googled it . . . . .
but I thought maybe someone will have some good old fashioned advice or remedy that does not include me eating any FISH (allergic).
Leave your advice - it would be most appreciated.

I have no nails problems, my husband had, usually when nails peel or split it's a sign of iron deficiency, but also dehydration and possibly under active thyroid. Try to eat food rich in iron (red meat, spinach, beans, peas, pumpkin seeds). Rub your nails with coconut oil.

Biotin, zinc, B12, iron vitamins (or foods containing them) may be of help.

38 days is not enough time to completely grow out your nails. I would suggest you warm a tiny bit of olive oil and soak your nails in them nightly. Improve your diet, if you can. Also the only time I ever had similar happen with my nails was when I was working tending plants a lot and my hands were frequently in water. If you are in that boat, wear gloves.

First time to hear that word. Thanks for the information. Better consult the professional I think.

Anna's advice sounds sensible.I have nothing to add, really, except to wish you success with this. If you are concerned about your appearance at the wedding in particular, could you put on artificial nails for the occasion? (Full disclaimer: I have no idea what I'm talking about!). I have a tendency to split on one fingernail, which suddenly developed a couple of years ago, but it remained confined to the one nail. Touch wood! Wishing you every success in treating this!
