What is the best diet?

My health has never been the greatest because of the way I used to eat. I always ate a standard american diet which is high in carbs and low in fat. I became overweight and got diabetes. I have found that for me personally, a low carb (ketogenic) diet is best. It keeps my blood sugars more under control. I always lose some weight when I am on a low carb diet. Do you eat a standard diet, or do you have to eat a certain way? Which diet do you think works best?

@MommyOfEli2013 Yes. I joined Weight Watchers as after 60+ years, I still hadn't learned. Now I am no longer obese!

good for you, you better watch your fat and salt consumption as these two things can be crucial at times. Also combine it with regular exercise friend so you remove toxins and could be some water retention when you eat salty food.

It's better to have a balance diet, and to customize your diet based on in your health problems and caloric needs.Dietary choices should be individualized.I suggest that you should take a diabetic- low- fat diet, as you mentioned that you diabetic. It's best for you to consult a dietitian,to know your specific dietary requirement.

A balanced diet is good for those that can eat that way. I agree that fiber is good. I don't crave carbs though if I don't eat them!

@MommyOfEli2013 That is usually the truth. If you cut out the sugar, soon you need it less. Same is true of salt. Good luck.

I like veggies and fruit - avoid most of the sugars, as they are addictive - I also take food supplements from Neolife - they have scientists from Stanford University to help us use the ones we need to keep healthy. You find the info online..

@MommyOfEli2013 It is good to eat good quality fish to get Omega 3 and Flax seeds and olive oil and also coconut oil. We need good fats to absorb the vitamins and minerals. Better avoid junk food, as some of the fats may be very harmful. If you can get probiotics, like in Sauerkraut, you can keep your digestion working well.. Maybe you can get the food supplements later.

That's good that you like veggies and fruit, that's great for health....and it's good to take good supplements. I couldn't afford those kind of supplements right now, but thanks for the info.

I think the best diet is when we eat a lot of of fresh fruits and vegetables. We also need some daily exercise, should regularly sleep 7-9 hours, keep a positive mental attitude and drink enough water. All the best!

I've always watched my carbs since I was able to lose that way in the past . I just talked with two people that are doing the keyboard diet and they feel they have more food choices that aren't boring. I may have to check that out a bit more

@MommyOfEli2013 someone that talked about it recently said he switched to the better flours and sugar substitutes similar to stevia. That way he's still enjoyed some bread products that don't raise his sugar levels like bread will.

@MarshaMusselman I use almond and coconut flours to make alternatives to bread and those kind of products...so that's good! I don't know what flours he uses....but that's what I use when I do low carb.

That's good, and low carb does help for sure! I find it kind of boring myself because I am a picky eater and am limited with my options.

Ive heard that too, but we can always make the choice to choose what we eat and stay healthy while avoiding all those bad foods or if not maybe try to reduce it first before totally eliminating them in our diet if that's what will work
• Rupert, Idaho

Thats good for you, I am also in a watch for my diet as it is already bad and I've eliminated soft drinks and stuff and controlled the amount of carbs that I consume. Ketogenic is a good diet it will help you lose weight as well and it's very healthy but I've read that the paleo diet was much better. According to an article I've read there's a process that's being skipped by the ketogenic diet which is essential to our body, maybe you can look it up on your own as well to see if I'm correct or wrong. Anyways, I'm happy for you friend! Happy mylotting and stay healthy! BE HAPPY ALWAYS!

They are kind of similar, Paleo and Keto.....but paleo you cut out dairy and a few other things you can still have on Keto. I don't think I could give up the dairy though because I am a picky eater as it is. Thank you for sharing though! Hope you can stay healthy as well! Happy mylotting to you too!
