Would you avoid a negative friend?

I remembered that I had a friend who always complained. She was very anxious. Now we don't talk anymore. Some people told me to avoid negative friends. But I don't think they should be avoided. I didn't talk to that friend anymore because I couldn't get out with her. I haven't seen her in years. Would you avoid a friend who is negative?

I would have no choice but to avoid them right now as I am fighting for my own survival every day and do not need the negative vibes. Yes I would.

I understand. You have to avoid them. I feel bad if I avoid negative people. They are still people. They need to be helped.

@dya80dya Some do not want to be helped, they take pleasure complaining all the time, I prefer to avoid them.

@LadyDuck It's true. But some people want to be helped. People who complain all the time without trying to solve their issues should be avoided.

It's better to cut negative people and things out of your life. You can spend your time and energy in better things rather deal with negativeness which can drag you down and detract your peace of mind.

I guess the best we can do is be there for those people.

I guess it would depend on how close I felt to them. We are all people with problems..some are more obvious than others though.

I'd have to say that I do after a certain point. I have a friend from high school who is negative about everything anyone else does, but promotes herself like crazy. She lives far away, but I tend to avoid her (on Facebook, etc.) when I can. It's incredible how little she's changed in the 40 years I've known her.
