I Love Saturday's Yard Sales

Canada
October 14, 2018 3:59pm CST
I don't go out every weekend but I needed beads to go on my art. For most of the week I kept seeing a sign for a yard sale nearby where I live. I went to the local charity shop on Friday looking for beads and I bought a few that I liked for $3 each. Saturday morning I remembered the sign so I followed the sign and I immediately discovered this home had a ton of jewelry. I started picking up the beads that interested me and I knew they would look good on my art. The woman who lived in the house sells things at people houses and she must have quit because there was a ton. I picked out the ones that appealed to me, by shape and size of the beads. I do use all sizes. I had no idea what she was going to charge me so I took 20 and asked what I needed to pay, she in turned asked me what they were worth to me. I said 50 cents per necklaces and she said that's a bit too low so I suggested a dollar and she said yes.... so I got the necklaces for a dollar each and I was happy, that was $2 less per item at the Charity shop. It took me a long time to take the beads off the strings, wash them, let them dry them and then sort them out and added to my boxes. I sort by color, shape and size. it was fun and now my boxes are full and I'm a happy camper. Now I need to spend some time with my paint. I hope you enjoyed your weekend, I certainly did...

Nice. Here in MInnesota it is no longer the time of year for garage or yard sales but I like them too. You never know what kind of goodies you will find!

Its beginning to be too cold for yard sales here in Canada too, I stopped by a charity shop this morning and got some good deals, and pretty beads.

@PainsOnSlate ohh how cute I see how you used the beads. I thought it was to glue on to something but this makes sense!

@shaggin for years I used plain wire on my art and then had some beads break and I used them on the wire..its a whole new thing to me and it certainly encourages people to buy my art.

They are fun to play with, I enjoy every moment except trying to put the beads together by size and color in my bead boxes, some times it take a lot of time...

Glad you got yourself a great deal and some nice beads for your artwork. We went to Ohio for a marriage conference and to see friends we'd not seen for about five years. Some of them lived in our city twelve years ago and we've missed them dearly. We had a great time at the conference and are hoping to make some changes to positively impact our marriage and other aspects of our life.

@PainsOnSlate So when you go south, do you usually head to Kansas, or I see that you also go to some beaches in Florida, but that may not be for the coldest part of the year? Kansas isn't very warm either in the winter or at least where I spent two years, in Kansas. I've been married for thirty years but haven't always been happy. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God brought us together, we were fine for a long time although I did consider divorce off and on even back then because it always seemed that everything was always on me. I've wanted to do a part for an anniversary one year, but I don't want to do a party and then get a divorce the next or a future years, so I've waited. Now, I know there is hope. He is on board with me and God is in the middle. I'm off work for three months so I have the time to make necessary changes with our lifestyle and we are excited. Our whole family went as it was a singles and married conference. My younger daughter just married in May so it was a good foundation for the both of them. I'm [edited] excited for where God will be leading us as a couple and as a family. Although, for some things in life, even if it's not broke sometimes we can learn better ways to shine things up. The main thread throughout many of the teachings was to lighten up. Have fun, laugh even in the bedroom.

@MarshaMusselman I was born in NY and lived there until I went to college in Kansas, I went home for a couple of years other colleges untilmy man from Mass. said lets get married and we did in NY and moved to Kansas where he had a good job. Two of our children were born in Kansas. He finished his master while we lived in Kansas and we moved all over the state getting better jobs and more money, he was a Football Collage Coach and wanted to get into the pros of football. That happened and moved us to Canada. The kids and I loved being so close to NY and Mass so we often visited both sets of parents/grandparents. Our children love Canada and call it home. We do too. He is retired now but still a personally on football radio. We try to get south every winter for a month or two (Florida). We have never gone back to Kansas once we moved to Canada but we still have friends there. I am glad the marriage conference helped you.

I've been married to the same man for 51 years. We met in College and have never looked back. I like the idea of a marriage conference but figure don't fix something that isn't broke. It must have been interesting...and its always fun to get together with old friends. We lived in Kansas for years and years and moved to Canada from there... We still keep in touch with old friends on line and its amazing how many have visited us here.

@CarolDM Saturday is a day I enjoy and often look for yard sales ahead of the time via local papers. Now its cold so the sales will disappear for a few months.

I go to any yard sales and love to go to the church ones because they usually have a lot of stuff, including beads..

Don't stop when you finish looking for beads, I talked to an old online friend last week that told me she hadn't been around much because she had been busy cruising garage sales and made over $10,000 this summer fixing stuff up and reselling it.

That is a lot of money by reselling, I am not that woman - I am an artist and busy with my art but its amazing how much your friend made.

I stopped at a charity shop this morning and got more. I hadn't been in that shop in a long time and I was in their town and just had to stop. I had 7 necklaces for $4.50 - I think I will stop more often...

If we lived closer I would give you all the necklaces I found in my mom's apartment, many were similar to those in the photo. I gave them to my niece to bring to a flea market.

@Morleyhunt It is so cold here in the Niagara area it feels like it could snow today....I went out to get my paper off the driveway at 5:30 and it was very cold. I don't want it to snow early either but I think its going to happen.

Love your amazing array of beads, you picked up at the garage sale! Nothing as exciting as rummaging through other peoples so called "unwanted" items. So enjoy it too! Hope your bead art goes well!
