Books are part of our lives. We've all read one even if we don't like it. Some have pretty covers, some have boring ones. Do you judge a book by its cover? Have you ever been disappointed by a book with a pretty cover? Have you ever read a book with a regular cover but the content exceeded your expectations?

I spend much of my time surrounded by books - which is hardly surprising given my profession of librarian! To be honest, the front cover rarely influences me one way or the other - although the blurb on the back cover often does!

@montaun I qualified in 1976 and have been working in libraries ever since. These days I have a part-time job in a university library - which I shall be doing this evening - and I also help to run the local public library as a volunteer.

I usually read the summary and then buy any book.

Have you ever been attracted to a cover but the summary is not your cup of tea?

As the saying goes you can`t judge a book by its cover not until you go through with it

the books i read when i was still a student are nursing books. i liked detective books and action books like those by Robert Ludlum. no, i don't judge a book by its cover, literally and figuratively

It's been a while since I held a book. Before the internet and during my younger days I love to read. I never judge a book by it's cover, although I might look at the book's review and what critics say about it.

I never look at the cover. I look at the title and decide from there if I want to read that book..

The problem with all those coverless books is they lost their interesting covers and the only thing left is the pictureless cover which is unattractive and doesn't give even a slight glimpse of what is within. I pick up those sad books who lost their covers and I look for a description, usually the back cover copy, somewhere within the cover of the book, or I will read the first page. If I like what I read on the first page, I'm hooked with the rest of the book. Am I ever disappointed with a book - yes, and those books will not find space on my bookshelves. Then there are books that definitely do exceed expectations and I read those again like best friends I want to visit over and again.

I used to hardly look at covers. When I started following book bloggers, I do notice them. But I judge the book by the summary.

@montaun I have put some books down because they were very boring and others I had to read to the end to see if it was better later on.

@montaun Did you find sticking with a book that it was better at the end than the beginning?
