TV channels are announcing the movie First Man, about Neil Armstrong, the first man who landed on the moon,
Among other parts of the announcement a middle aged heavy set man appears on TV telling that he was 7 when that happened.
And I remember how my husband and I, young and thin, stayed glued to our small black and white TV set, out hearts pounding and our eyes teary. That only shows how old I am, I say to myself.
I danced to a song called Sputnik and saw an era when all puppies were called Laika. I hope this movie teaches the new generation what I learned first hand almost 50 years ago.

I´m sure the awesome of that moment cannot be met by any film, no matter how good is made.

@LadyDuck I don´t envy the lack of a capacity for wonder these youngsters have. They take everything for granted.

@marguicha No, those who are young cannot understand what did it mean for our generation "going to the moon".

@josie_ Anyone who has seen the historical event knows that the flag was there. The words were more important to all us than the flag.

@marguicha _The film producer chose not to highlight that particular phase of the moon landing. Besides Neil Armstrong said "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". No mention of any nationality. It was a world event for everyone living on Earth.

It was the most thrilling thing I had ever seen. And I never saw another such as that.

@ilocosboy I saw it when it actually happened. Then, we did not know what would actually happen while we were watching.

We were camping and some one set up a small television near the bathhouse.....many campers sat around that wee television to watch that first step on the moon.

I truly believe that nothing later has been as thrilling as that moment.

You will have to wait for that. But there are other movies about the space travel.
