Is Anybody Else More of a PLAYER Person Than A TEAM Person?

I never had any interest in professional sports teams. Unless you count the Formula 1 Lotus team, which is now no more, I was never really "brought up" to favor any sports team, not even the hometown team(s).
My family made an exception, however, when the New Orleans Saints were in the Super Bowl back in the 2009-2010 NFL season. That is the only Super Bowl we have ever watched to date.
Following the Saints' Super Bowl win, I followed them through about the last season-and-a-half, however, to tell you the truth, it got to the point where I would not care if Drew Brees was not their quarterback. It was about midway through the 2011 NFL season that I became very touched and enamored with the legacy he was building and his balletic mechanics. And when a string of losing seasons followed, I started to hold tight to that legacy more and more. As long as he was still breaking records and throwing touchdowns, the Saints had at least one thing to be proud of. At least that was my way of looking at it.
The other thing is that I've never been a football fan. As I said, I was an avid follower of the team for a little while but that got boring, and I suppose part of the reason is this big exotically tribal and "joiner" mindset just doesn't fit my personality. Really the only part that interests me now is Drew Brees & the passing game.
This may seem odd, but I can't stand it when Brees doesn't throw any touchdowns and the Saints still win. I also hate games in which he seems to take a back seat to the running game, even if they win. If he throws for 400+ yards and 4 touchdowns, and the team loses, however, I am happy, because Brees looks like the elite QB he is, rather than just a "game manager." I just really think he has a gift and I don't want to see him come this far... only to come this far... because I think he deserves a whole lot more after all he's done for New Orleans and for the Saints. I also get annoyed when fans want to run the ball more than they pass or clamor for some other strategy that would mean watering down Brees' act.
That is another thing about me -- I cannot STAND it when my favorite part of something gets watered down. This applies to anything in life that catches my fancy, not just Drew Brees' role on the New Orleans Saints.
Also, I will point out that when I was younger, I was into Shaquille O'Neal. I didn't keep track of any stats back then, however, but even then I did not have a favorite team, just a favorite player.
Anyone else get attached to individual players more than teams?
