Dussehra is the festival where victory of good over evil is celeberated by burning the effigy of demon king Ravan. People go to see the burning in 1000s all over the country.
Today was the same as well. Until a tragic incident turned the festive mood into mourning. In Amritsar, Punjab the people who were watching the celebration was run over by the speeding train. At around 7 PM IST
Over 50 are already reported dead, much more injured and still counting. The footages showed a gruesome scene. Relief efforts are underway!
Horrified, shocked and pained. Can't even imagine the pain of the families of the bereaved. Heartbreaking to see them cry and hear the screams of pain.
Train accident in Amritsar kills over 60: Initial reports suggest Dussera revellers were watching the burning of a Ravan close to the track. The crowd had spilt on to the rail line when the local train came and crushed a number of them in Amritsar.

@Daljinder Often very hard for me to comprehend something tragic like this to have taken place. Feeling awful for everyone who was involved.

@Daljinder No that's not insensitive. It's kinda like when people die from a car crash and you find out that they were speeding on purpose. It was kinda brought upon themselves.

@VivaLaDani13 People need to be mindful as well. The train did not leave the track and chase them down...as insensitive as it may sound. They were trespassing on railway tracks.

But from what I read, they were told n number of times to keep off the track. Because they were not able to see properly they went on to the tracks, and were so engrossed that they did not realize that the train was coming there. While it is tragic, that was not the venue, and people did need to confine themselves to the venue. We have people sitting on terraces and trees while watching cricket, isn't it?

@Daljinder Exactly. So it is rather unfair to blame anybody else.

@Sojourn It is! We literally jumped from profound happiness to profound grief. Hence it seems more shocking.
