Today I bought a new TV. The old one - it was eleven years old - had gone out of order.I tried to get it repaired by a mechanic, but he suggested me to buy a new set instead of wasting money on the old one.
Watching news on TV at night has been my routine for years.Tonight I watched news and a comedy programme on the new LED tv.
But I miss the old set.It served me for long eleven years.I watched many historical news on it.Not only news,I watched many interesting episodes of my favourite serials on it.In last eleven years it never went out of order.
Now it is placed there on a table.I can see it from here.
Would you miss a gadget when it retires after serving you for years?

I miss my old tv as well. But right now as long as we have a tv working then there's no problem.

@franxav My retired, old tv is a box tv, too.I'm told that a box tv consumes more electricity than a LED tv. Is it true??

Actually I too miss a gadget but it depends upon their quality and importance..The gadget which I used what is the importance of it..In my personal opinion if you wait for some days, I think you don't have to miss that now..abd Yes one thing you said you gave that to a mechanic then you can give to another mechanic also..Why waste money for new one..I think so..

@saumitra1 If you repair an old gadget, it does not last long.If I had get the old set repaired now,it would have gone out of order again after some days.So better buy a new one. There is no use going to different mechanics. How long can I go on doing this?I have to watch news and my favomite programmes.

@Shivram59 Yes but I am not talking about not to buy a new tv..I am saying that you can buy but if you can watch tv with your old television then go on using old tv.If it doesn't work at all or you can say if there are no chances of repairing then you can buy a new tv..

@saumitra1 Do you mean I should buy a new TV and then go on using the old one? Please explain what you think I should do.Why should I buy a new TV if I have to watch the old one?

11 years of service. That's a great TV you have there. Most of our TV just lasted for 3 to 5 years.

@simplfred That's exactly what the mechanic said.He said to me," Your TV is completely exhaunted and needs rest for ever.Let it be retired."

Looks like you got attached with your old TV despite having a new one and probably much better than the old one you still miss using the old. I think it has served its purpose so its time that you also let him go. The memories that is left in your mind/heart will remain there but the TV will have to be discarded as they are really of no use to you anymore unless you can sell it as junk items.

@Shivram59 There’s nothing wrong with being attached to something. If it’s human I think no matter how invalid he/she may be you will really keep him/her. Now when it comes to other objects i do have sentimental feelings for them as well but when they lose their purpose I can easily discard them over the human counterpart.

@rsa101 You are absolutely right.Perhaps I'm being nostalgic about the nights I spent watching my favourite serials and news on the old set.My family members and friends say I'm too sentimental and perhaps they are right.

@rsa101 If you live with someone or something -no matter it is a human being or a gadget - for a long time, you automatically develop an attachment with it.Am I wrong?

TV is a peace destroyer in my home at present. Not on watching but the remote is getting damaged due the carelessness of children. So rest I don't want to write here.
Congrats for your new TV. You will be used with the new one and forgot the old one slowly.

@Sreekala Thanks. Thanks a lot. Here the situation is quite different. We now don't have small children in our family. My younger brother - the youngest member of our family -is a teenager. And my TV is exclusively my own.I'm it's only user. It's installed in my room.My parents have another tv in their room.

@Shivram59 Only some of us are sensitive. My father is not sensitive. We raised a dog for 10 years and he didn't get upset when we lost the dog. He was even glad. I think he removed the dog from our yard.

Yes initially, we do miss a favorite of ours, even if it is very old. Yet after some time, we get used to our new gadget(s).
Have a good night and a great week ahead.

11 years is a long time.
That mechanic is honest, others would milk your money instead of telling you the truth.

When it serves us for a long time it left us with sentimental value. You can keep it as a collection.

@ilocosboy Yes,you are absolutely right.Yesterday when the new tv was being installed,I felt I have developed an emotional attachment with my old tv. Within seconds memories of nights spent watching serials and news flashed across my mind and my heart began feeling a "pain." ( Don't know what more appropriate word I should use here.)

I can relate to that because even me I usually put in safe place my precious like my first running shoes which I kept because it served me during my first years of running.

@ilocosboy I understand. The pain that my mother had gifted me when I was in high school is still with me.It happens. We naturally develop an attachment with someone or something we spend a long time with.

@swBsincere Agree. As long as it was functioning well,I didn't discard it.I bought a new TV when it went out of order and the mechanic told me it was irreparable.
