Do you like squash?

I didn't enjoy squash of any kind when growing up but eventually began trying various ones figuring they must be healthy. I've eaten a lot of spaghetti squash in recent years, but I only enjoy it with butter and either parmesan cheese or mozzarella.
Some of the smaller squashes are sweeter but so far those I picked out recently aren't sweet enough for me. I refuse to put brown sugar on it .
Tonight I tried one of the orange ones and the Golden Nugget. I think the orange was the butterkin and the bigger possibly other color. The one left is a golden acorn.
I've tried buttercups and got a very sweet one the forest time and not so sweet the second time. Sweet dumplings are usually good. I don't think I'll have these again although I have yet to try this seasons golden acorn the one with the sticker still on it.
Do you like any squash and do you ever try new ones?

I didn't like squash when I was younger either. I just started to like it a little as I got older as a spaghetti squash. It's opened me up to try it within different things.

There is one type that comes out in strands like spaghetti. The rest can be mashed or cut into chunks.i don't that any other ones are used instead of noodles unless they're oriented that way and sold on stores.

@MarshaMusselman I usually eat them out. I'm too lazy of a cook to buy and cook squash myself at home. It takes alot of work to make any vegetable into spaghetti strands.

@TishaMears here most people only use spaghetti squash for the noodles as they come out looking like noodles and are easy to make. More and more people are buying and using spiralizers but most only use zucchini and summer squash for that.

I only like certain ones although I'm willing to try most at least once. Problem is if I don't like the taste I won't know whether everyone of that variety would taste the same it whether some years they may be tastier than other years
I try not to put any sugar on mine, regular or brown sugar. If I did it Mike make them more palatable for me but I'd rather not have to eat them if they needed sugar.

I like to use them for decoration but I can't eat them. They make me gag.The consistency is weird. I do eat a little acorn squash from time to time. It's not too bad for some reason.

@MarshaMusselman ......Don't care for sweet potatoes either. Sweet dumpling I hadn't heard before. I do like the acorn squash. It is small so not so much to eat.

Some of the lighter colored ones are sweeter, especially the one names sweet dumpling. I think the texture is similar to sweet potatoes and taters in general depending on how they're cooked

@celticeagle the sweet dumpling is even smaller than the acorn. It's usually yellow and green striped. I have one I needed to eat soon and will catch a photo soon.
Here is one I've never seen before which was at my mechanics. They called it a gourd.

I doubt it would ever be my favorite vegetable, but I try to eat one or two each year.

@MarshaMusselman I’m guessing the first person who mentioned it is Filipino. It’s a common saying here.

@flapiz or someone there heard about it or a parent wanted their kids to eat their squash and the saying became popular.
It's not a popular saying online.

There are more kinds than you can imagine as I see new types out every few years.
You're the second or third person that mentioned squash is good for the eyes. I'd never heard this before but it seems to be true along with many other vegetables that contain vitamin A

I've not heard of squash candy before. Where doyou buy it and who makes it?

@kayeevana how. What did she do to make the candy out of the squash? Here in America some people sugar or brown sugar into their squash but we don't consider that candy. It's just another way to eat the vegetables

the squash we have here is the one on the upper right corner of your photo, brownish skin, orangey inside. or green skin, bright yellow inside. we usually cook them with other veggies, pork, etc to eat with steamed rice for lunch or dinner.

You cook them with your other foods or just cook them separately and eat with other foods? Here there mostly cooked in a separate pan and used as a side dish unless it's the spaghetti squash then many use them instead of noodles with spaghetti sauce.

Neither was I until I began trying some of the different types each year. Now there's one or two I don't mind eating once in a while.
It's I can get my pic to post these are sweet dumpling squashes. They are usually sweeter than the others.

That does look like a pumpkin but it's called something else here. I've not tried the orange acorn yet but may have a sweet dumpling tonight for supper.

I love squash, both summer and winter. I add zucchini to lots of my foods as it has such a good strong flavor. I love winter squash but now buy the already-cubed squash as it's much easier to prepare.

See now I think zucchini is rather bland unless it's sauteed with onions in oil. It might be the onions that get my taste buds watering though.
