Does getting wet in the rain make you catch a cold?

I've never figured out why many people believe that getting wet in the rain will make them catch a cold and cough and make them sick. Is it true? If so why does it do that,?

The common cold is caused by a virus, not by the weather. However, one could imagine a circumstance in which the two might be linked - a sudden shower causes people to gather together in the same shelter, or crowd onto a bus instead of walking, and the virus can then spread more easily.

I've heard that explanation. It does not explain why anyone walking through a downpour alone gets a cold. I've heard people who swear it was the downpour that caused it!!

@pitstop Might it be the case that the person already had the virus but the cold rain accelerated its development into a full-blown cold?

it really depends on different things. I would think your immune system may have something to do with it for sure.

There are others who have said the same. Maybe some immune boosters could be in order during monsoon season.

I am used to get wet by the rain and then I will take a shower in full at home. I don't know my mother said so that I will not get sick

For me, it happens esp whenever there is sudden change in weather. Like hot in the morning followed by drenching in the rain in the evening

Some people may catch cold and cough after getting wet in the rain. Apply some mustard oil with garlic relief you from that.

it's because of the virus that we catch a cold from getting wet in the rain.

Does the virus love the rain?
