Giving and Generosity

Would like your thoughts and insights. Why is it the people who have the least to give seem to be the ones who desire and are willing to give the most, while others who have something to offer are the most reluctant to give? This question was triggered by recent events in my own life and others I've witnessed.

Greed? Selfishness? Lack of empathy and love? I do know some people that have a lot and are very generous.

this is hard to answer.I think that it has always been this. They just enjoy no matter what they have to share. We did this way back in the thirties of the Great Depression day.

It seems that the more people have the more they become selfish and only attached to money. They forget what it's important in life.

I believe it to be because they may have a deeper understanding of what it is to need. This is not to say that those with more have never been without, but by having more, it distances one from true poverty and can make one forget how it is. I hope you are not in dire need my friend. Is there anything we can do? I know it is hard.

Oh no, it's just that certain things have just got me wondering what motivates people. I was curious as to what others thought.

Because rich people think of security that is why they don't give. Just my insight of course.

I don't think the act of giving has to do with who has much or less to share. Rather i will say that its more about who you really are. I know of people who have much and still give.

Those who have the least know what it's like to not have much. Therefore, they can relate to others in need. However, I think their are lots of people who have a lot who also give a lot to those who need it.

This is true and I didn't mean to imply that everyone who has a lot doesn't give. I certainly know many generous people. After some things I've observed lately I was just curious to what others thoughts were.

Those who have little know best what it is like to have nothing and feel strongly about helping while those who have much don't have the empathy to help them feel what it's like to be without. Also, this can be a misleading impression. Those who have little and give what they can may, in raw dollars, be giving much less than those who have much and give little when the little they give is added up and deposited to the bank.

I give not because I have much but because I know the feeling of having nothing at all.

That's a great question. My take on it is those who find themselves in a similar situation or experienced hardship have more empathy. They can relate!
