Day 69
Luke 16:19
Luke 16:19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime received thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou would send him to my father’s house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham said unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
People have many ideas of heaven and hell. They even make jokes about hell, or don’t believe it exists. People also believe heaven is a myth and nothing will come after they die and enter into eternity.
Jesus told a parable about heaven and hell. He showed both as a real place. Hell, as a place of torment and heaven as a place of peace.
As Christians, you know heaven and hell are real and you long to enter heaven when you pass into eternity. What many Christians don’t realize is that people who reject Jesus as Savior and Lord and go to hell when they die can see heaven and the people who accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord. They can see the peace of a life lived by faith. And they become aware they will never have another opportunity to accept Jesus and enter heaven and live peacefully for eternity.
Everyone has the same opportunity in this life to accept Jesus as Savior and Lord so they don’t experience an eternity in hell where they will face torment and never-ending heat. The rich man asked for water to cool his tongue because the heat of hell is intense.
Heaven is real. Hell is real. You have a choice. Do you want to spend an eternity with your eyes on your loved ones while you face the torments of hell? Or will you accept Jesus as Savior and Lord and enter an eternity of peace and love where Jesus lives and reigns? You have a choice and your choice will decide which eternity you will face.
Let’s pray: Father, help me live my life as a reflection of your love for me, so that when this life is over, I will spend my eternity with you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

A very important reminder, Valerie. It's hard to reach unbelievers who don't worry about going to hell because they think they just turn back to dust at the end and that's it.

If only most people believed that. Thank you for reminding me. I don't want my repent to be too late.

But I sometimes think of heaven and hell as existing on earth. If we follow the path of "righteousness," we sleep well. And we enjoy life more. I admit to not knowing what will happen when this little bit of consciousness (me) goes away. But I trust God to take care of me. Does that mean I am not a "true Christian"? I do not know.

If you do not know, the answer is yes, you are not a true Christian.

Hell is a popular choice for many as it is written in the word of God broad is the way that lead to destruction and many persons find it and narrow is the way that leads to life and only a few persons find it.
