Advice to a Friend

I got a call this morning from a friend who needed advice. She is having problems with her husband's adult children. The relationship is not so good. I was very careful and tiptoed around what I said. The best advice sometimes is to just listen. Not saying anything speaks volumes. I let her talk and she did for over an hour. I think that helped her more than anything I could say.
All in all it was good to hear from her. It made me realize my life is pretty good after hearing about her problems. I hope things work out for her. Do you freely give out advice when asked?

You did well, Carol. Sometimes that's all a person needs, just to be let speak. There's a lot of processing goes on as we talk a problem through, even in monologue.

@NormanDarlo Yes we do my friend. And I am always ready as I have friends that need non-judgmental conversation.

@CarolDM And sometimes we have to tell the story over and over to begin to come to terms with it. We should always be ready with an ear and shoulder.

I will give advice whether they are listening or not.

It depends on what they are wanting advice for.

That was great what you did for her. She probably needed someone to just listen to her vent. It is not easy marrying someone with children. I try not to give advice if I do not know what I am talking about but if I do I try to listen to someone and if they ask I may answer. It depends on what they want to know.
