Will Ice Skating Reduce a High Fever?

After all we have been through, you’d think it would be over. Not so. We spent most of our weekend in New York City. Our ice princess developed a high fever which nothing lowered.
She was admitted to Cornell Weil Hospital with her high fever and pneumonia and treated and treated to no avail. Thanks to their being such a progressive hospital, after one full day, they figured out that she has the adenovirus which recently killed 11 children in New Jersey. Within 2 hours of treatment, the ice princess was fine, but had to remain overnight.
There are many forms of the adenovirus. We hare lucky hers was treatable. The CDC had to record hers as being the first in Manhattan. She is weak, but will be allowed to attend school for no more than 3 hours a day, a few days per week, and no ice skating until the doctor says so.
She did enjoy the therapy dogs, the volunteer grandmas, the puppet shows, and gifts once she recovered, but felt so badly for the truly sick children that she donated all her gifts and flowers to them
That’s our girl!

I feel so bad for those families that lost their children!
That was a very kind and loving gesture on her part!
I hope she quickly recovers in the fullest sense.

Oh my gosh, I didn't realize how bad this virus is hitting children! Sorry I didn't respond sooner and thank God, your ice princess is getting better:) Our seven year old grand-daughter ran a high fever and she was terribly sick for about three days. Now, Aubrey is back to her ole self again!

@kobesbuddy Wow! Fortunately, it was probably a virus she could handle.

@DianneN Thank God, she responded to treatment! When Mari Lyn called to make a doctor's appointment, the pediatrician's office was closed on a Friday! So, Aubrey never did go to the doctor, even though she should have been seen.

@CarolDM Thanks, Carol. That's true, but trying to keep an active kid quiet is tough. Fortunately, she loves to read and has many new books which my DIL told me she's finishing quickly. My son will pick up a few more from the book store on his way home from the office. Books and movies are the only things that keep her still. Sigh.....

Oh my. It sounds like you have all been through a lot.I am glad your daughter is recovering. Mine was an ice skater too and skated while we had no idea she was ill. That was not a good idea. It is such a strenuous sport so rest is needed. How sweet of your daughter to think of others while still ill herself.

@DianneN I so get this. I used to tell my daughter ice skating was her horse as no way could we do both. I was amazed she had tried to carry on skating while ill but cannot for the life of me think what the illness was. It was a bit like ME but not ME and I was so puzzled when she was unable to get out of bed some days. Great sport but the cost! A new outfit for every competition and every show even for someone who was never going to be Olympic standard. We discovered too late she was talented at dance rather than figure and oh the nightmares over that axel jump...however, the illnes meant my daughter never passed any of her major school exams and had a C.V with just skating achievements on it. We put those on and she got employed. I was so glad then I had paid out all that money.

@Jackalyn My granddaughter loves figure skating as your daughter did. She skated with a broken heel and a broken in 6 places ankle. We doubt that she will ever be Olympic material, but she has Olympic coaches and has done very well for herself both in skating and in school. However, she's only 10 years old (skating since she was 3) and loves it. When she wants to give it up, it will be her decision. Many of the skaters she skates with are forced by their parents. Not her. Yes, it's extremely expensive, but her parents do what they can for both kids. Her ballet helped her with her balance when she began skating, and she even performed for a few years off Broadway singing, tapping, and doing ballet. Now her coaches have her taking ballet to help with her artistry. I'm so happy your daughter found employment and hope she is happy.

@LadyDuck I agree. She is doing everything she can do to rest and recover, but has been bouncing off the walls. My son took her for a short walk for some fresh air and bought her some books. Her doctor is located in a building across the street and was willing to make a house call, but she insisted on going to his office just to get out of the apartment. I do hope she won't have a relapse. Pneumonia isn't fun. I've had it 3 times - once was a relapse.
