Sometimes I hear some things happen in my beautiful country and I wonder if they happen in others. Take for example, tomorrow the Nov 12th, the public transport operators are planning to go on strike. Reason being, there are rules that they must follow. The government has not been following up but they decided to do so. Because the public transport sector (matatu) do not want these rules, they are putting their tools down. How absurd is that!
The rules are such as having safety belts, not overloading and the drivers and touts wearing uniform. What is the challenge in following simple rules?

I don`t consider it as a challenge. It`s for the safety of the drivers and passengers

We have our own share of strike but because they try to modernize the jeepney that doens't look like a jeep and it's more expensive. We had strikes too about fee increase.

@aureliah yes, it helps over here since jeeps and taxis can't really enter smaller subdivisions.

It does happen in my place too. They will test it if there is a workaround the law so they do not necessarily follow it. Anyway I think it is a natural reaction when you implement a new law. In time if they realise it to be beneficial they will be silent about it.

We do have strikes sometimes, but they don't usually affect me much.

I guess some people do not like to follow the rules of their employers since they think it restricts their freedoms.

Most people hate rules. They want to work the way they feel like but unfortunately its not possible

Strikes happen over here in the USA! Some for legit awesome reasons and others, for really silly things that make no sense like you pointed out. Why would anyone protest against rules preventing over-crowding on buses or seat belts? its for safety!!

You bet, I am from India and face such things almost everyday. I live in Australia where such strikes/tool down things are rare but in India it happens almost everyday. Some or the other union calls for a strike and everything halts and it makes it more painful for a country with 1.3 billion people.

Ugh. No one wants to follow rules these days. Not wanting to follow such simple rules as those really seems silly.

many times our transport group here go on strike because their requests are not met by our government. the end result is the commuters cannot go to their work because of transport strike.

we are also in that scenarios, and just yesterday the group of truck drivers went into strike because of some issues.

There are often strikes in my country. From striking drivers for fuel prices, to the strike of an educator who each year in September strives to increase salaries, health workers, the police ... But we are the people who are accustomed to suffer what is imposed on us, as far as rules are concerned, we are very hard to read.
