A Trip out to Trastevere

On my last visit to Rome, I took the bus out to Trastevere. The name comes from Latin trans Tiberim ("across the river Tiber") and it is an area that has been somewhat apart since ancient times. In the early years it was a centre of settlement for Middle Easterners such as Jews and Syrians, and it has retained its funky, bohemian atmosphere all the way down to the present day.
Today the area is home to narrow cobbled streets lined with cute trattorias and bars. My main goal was also there: the city's Botanic Garden, where I spent several profitable hours exploring. Afterwards, I found a delightful little place on the Piazza Trilussa, where I had a Focaccia topped with pork neck pickled in white wine, soft white cheese, and steamed dandelion greens - as pictured - to die for!
What's the best food you've had while travelling?

Why is that, Putri? Surely you have to eat something?

@NormanDarlo yes, before I left I did eat something, but when I was on the trip I didn't really like food, I preferred to drink

@NormanDarlo It looks very delicious. And the oysters have to be lightly breaded and fried just right.

Oh yes, I will be the friend of oysters anywhere, if they let me eat them! Carol, this one really was top notch

The focaccia looks good, but my favorite of Trastevere are "spaghetti alla carbonara" and " abbacchio alla scottadito" also "coda alla vaccinara" is something I like. Reading about Trastevere put me an old song in my brain "Ciumachella de Trastevere", I do not even know what ciumachella means, it's Roman, now I need to search.

@NormanDarlo It is a very old song and it is still unclear what ciumachella really means, I will ask a Roman. You are correct about the lamb and the oxtail.

Those dishes sound good, though the first is the only one I am familiar with. I guess the second is grilled lamb, and the last oxtail? I listened to Lando Fiorini singing that song. They don't make so many songs like that any more

Best food? The earthy taste of spuds and cabbage with lashings of butter and salt out in the rural of Ireland.......nothing like it anywhere.
Yep I love that food you showed us there Norman too.
So glad you got to travel and taste such lovely stuff.

It looks nice, but not sure it's for me. Thank you for sharing! I haven't travelled much so I can't really answer this (yet).

You got me reading about Masakan Padang, Nawala. It sounds like just the kind of food I like!
