Hello everyone. I know I haven’t been here in quite some time. But about two weeks ago I had a heart attack. The strange this about it was I thought I had some major gas pains. Never thought it was a heart attack. I couldn’t go to my doctor because it was Saturday and they weren’t in. So I went to a local urgent care a few blocks away from me. I had an EKG and they found it abnormal. So they rushed me to the hospital. There at the ER I was being well taken care of. They told me I was having a heart attack and I did not feel any different. I felt fine actually. I know I am diabetic and yes, I was cheating on my diet and smoking like I always do. So, at that point they took me to the OR and installed 2 stents into my heart. They also told me my heart was functioning at only 15 percent. The procedure went perfectly and I was sent to ICU. There, a team of doctors wanted to make me get a pump installed and also a possible transplant.
Well, I asked if they were calling my doctor to let him know what was going on. And they told me yes. But my doctor never came to see me. I was wondering why not. Come to find out, they lied to me and never told my doctor. And my doctor is a cardiologist. And an excellent one at that and very well respected in that hospital. Well, As the days went on I was feeling better and better. I was in the hospital for about a week. Then I was released to come home. At that point I developed a major cough and had lots of phlegm. The follow up visit with the doctor from the hospital was a horror. He told me I did not need an anti-biotic. He told me it was fluid around my heart and to take another water pill. Well I did what he said but it got worse. So, I went to see my doctor for the cough, I was given a very strong anti-biotic and within a day and a half I was fine again. I could breathe and I felt great.
I am wearing what they call a life vest. That is basically an external defribulator. I hope I spelled that right. Anyway, my doctor had done another EKG and an Echo and said I did not need a pump or transplant. So I will see my doctor again next Monday. I know I screwed up, I basically did it to myself. But I survived and I am still alive. No more smoking now for about three weeks. I have to be on a strict diet, no sugar, salt or fat of any kind. Nothing fried. I can live with that. As for the smoking, well, I did take a puff of one after a week and it wasn’t good. So I know it is out of my system for good. I just wanted to write this and let everyone here know what happened to me and what is going on. I will keep everyone here up to date as much as I can with my condition. Hopefully my heart muscle gets stronger and I will be fine. Time will tell everything.
Sorry I wasn’t here much and sorry I screwed up and put myself in this situation. Love all my friends here and I really love MyLot. I will make an effort to be here more now.

Wow that is terrible news. I am so glad that you lived through that and we're able to come here to tell us what you went through. I hope you don't go back to smoking. That is awful they lied to you and didn't tell your doctor. Sounds like your in better hands with your doctor then any of the other ones.

Wow I know how you feel. It was 18 months ago that I had a heart attack and open heart surgery. It is very scary. Take care of yourself.

Lucky for me no open heart surgery. Just a few stents and now I am working with my doctor to make my heart stronger. Hopefully the medication works and I will be fine. It is scary but I never felt scared the entire time. I was wide awake and making jokes on the ER. And also I was wide awake during the stents being put in. I know I am lucky and I need to learn a major lesson from this.

@Happy2BeMe Wow, That had to be scary. Yes I am glad to be alive and kicking right now. But time is very important right now. Helping my heart muscle get stronger is the main focus. And of course my diabetes.

@inertia4 You were very lucky! I was clam through it all too but now looking back it is scary to think how things could have gone. I had my heart attack while I was sleeping. It woke me up. They told me that only a small percentage of people wake up when they have a heart attack. I am thankful for my second chance at life and I am thankful you are getting that chance soon. Wishing you all the best as you move forward!

Good thing, you went to your local urgent care. Imagine being told that your heart is just functioning at 15%!
Take care then, my friend. Do what the doctor says.
So, did you doctor got irked when you told him about it and was told that he wasn't told about it as the hospital claims that they will tell him?

That's what they told me in the hospital that my heart is only working at 15 percent. But I don't feel that to be the case. I am not tired or winded or anything. So maybe my heart is getting stronger. My doctor was angry at the staff in the hospital for not telling him anything.

Thanks for sharing this for all to be forewarned and I'm glad you made it to the local urgent care in time. A few minutes' delay would have been fatal. Heart attack and strokes are treacherous. I hope everything will be fine and that you won't need a transplant.

When my husband had a stroke we learned that many hospitals now hire "hospitalists" that take care of patients who are admitted and the primary care and other doctors do not get updated or anything. I hope your heart does some healing. Be good to yourself.

Tell me about it. My doctor had a major blow out with the doctors that were taking care of me and the hospital itself. Now my doctor told me that it was bad but not as bad as they told him I was. See, they lied constantly. But I am in good hands with my doctor.

Yeah, money. LOL. I love money. You're right. I can now buy something for myself that I always wanted. Yes, don't take any pains in your chest or arms lightly. Always get yourself checked. No more smoking for me. I do miss it, what smoker wouldn't. But I am okay with not smoking anymore.

@sw8sincere Anyone who thinks they are having a heart attack should go right to the emergency room. Even if it is gas pain. Better safe than sorry.
