Regrets

North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Jon, 93, said that his only real regret in life, is that he had never been in love. Not REAL love. He had three wives, and was married to none of them more than a few years, so he said that pretty much proved his point. He never had children, and only once had a dog that he named Spot because he didn't really care enough to come up with an original name. Spot stayed around longer than any of the wives, but dogs are loyal like that. They don't care if you cheat on them, as long as you come home. It's not likely he'll find love now. --- Sophie, 78, regrets that she never learned to do the Tango, and that she didn't kiss Harris B on the lips that night when he dropped her off. He never called her again, and she's sure that's why. She later married, and had children and "Tons of grandchildren". She hardly ever sees them though because they all live so far away. Some of the grandchildren she has never even met. She still has time. That's what we all think. --- Franklin, 54, regrets not spending more time with his wife before she got ill. He loved her, but paid more attention to his job. The job that he got fired from for having to stay with her so much in the hospital. Yeah, that job. He now works as little as he can and spends the rest of his time trying to drink away his sorrow. --- Blaise, 7, only regrets that he most likely won't have a double digit birthday party. He says if he makes it to the big one-oh, he will be content. You see, Blaise has always had leukemia. He doesn't know any other life, and he has made the best out of every single day. He loves, and he is loved. --- No matter how old we are, let us not be a Jon, Sophie, or Franklin. Let's be a Blaise, and embrace life while we're living it. We are never promised tomorrow.

I'm sure we all have a few regrets, but nothing as sad as the above.

Such wonderful words of wisdom. Although I'm human like everybody else and have bad days every now and then, I do try to live each day like it was my last. I've had many people tell me that they think that's why I'm so adventuresome (translation: wild and crazy). I just like to have fun. We only get one chance at our time on this rock, so might as well make the most of it.

@cindiowens Oh yeah, good point. There are definitely some non-humans walking among us. Sometimes it's hard to tell which though.

You are unable to do what? Embrace life? Why not?

@bunnybon7 Your ability has nothing to do with your heart. You can still embrace life and enjoy what you do have. You are obviously doing that it seems. Here's a hug.

Regrets cannot be avoided because sometimes, we get weak in deciding to go for it. But so far now, I am happy with my life.

Oh @sallypup its never too late to dance. Even people in wheelchairs dance. If all you can do is move your eyeballs to the music then that's a dance.

I regret things that I DIDN'T do more than things I DID do. But I do regret that Anne and I drank too much Jack Daniels before I worked up the nerve to kiss her when I was 19. She wound up puking that night, and the kissing was done. We kissed again, but never got past "second base." I have other regrets as well.

@cindiowens not at all...when I was writing it I thought you might feel so. I read the whole part and loved the inspiring words you wrote at the end.

It is very hard when we lose someone. Just the fact that we can no longer pick up the phone and call them. I am sorry for the loss of your mother. My condolences.

We all have one of "what if" stuff. What if I did this, my life would been different. Sometimes the wind of fate takes control on most of our journey.

@cindiowens We kinda did but at most we don't. We indeed control the machine but this machine is not our own. The wind dictates every pace. We may plan nice things, we may chose the seems right one but at the end, the final say - belongs to fate. Just my take.

Well we really don't get what we want in our lives at some point in our lives so I really think that we will have our own version of regrets when the day comes. What we can do is avoid those that have pass us and be grateful with that you have right now.

I was talking more about our decisions in life rather than what life gave us. We have all made decisions that we regretted from time to time.

When I was born again my regrets went away with the old person I was. If I'm living in a spiritual mindset I won't have any regrets. Living close to God helps in many ways. =)

I try to live my life without regrets. More money would be nice...but I've learned to work with what I have. I think the reason Jon was never "in love" was because he never learned to love unconditionally. It's probably best that he never had children....he couldn't even be bothered to think of a good name for his dog.
