Coffee makes me sleepy.

I found it odd and a little silly when I realized that coffee makes me sleepy. I laughed it off because my sister said the same thing.
I met with a friend at a coffee shop near my home, I told her about it and thought it would amuse her too. Instead she explained why I had that reaction with a straight face.
She said coffee is a natural diuretic - it makes a person pee. Then the body loses water - and if too much, it becomes dehydrated. The blood thickens and slows down the flow. This makes us a bit lethargic or lazy (I forgot the term) since the oxygenated blood can't get to where it needs to be and when it needs to get there.
The weird thing is, when this happens, people would try to consume more coffee believing it would keep them awake but instead, it's just going to make it worse --- AND I'm one of those weirdos.
So I ordered two more latte's and we forgot the whole discussion.

I am not really sure how this is going to sound, but there is a certain temperature of coffee that makes it diuretic for me. When it's medium hot or hot, I am okay with that, but when it's iced coffee or hot turned cold that is when it becomes diuretic for me.
MY older sister reacts the same way like you and your friend do, it makes her fall asleep.
As for me, it's the opposite, it makes me hyper, which I am not really sure if that's a good or bad thing :-) I get to do a lot around the house and some times I feel I am having information overload, thinking a lot of things at the same time.
I am happy for you and your friend and other coffee lovers who are able to fall asleep because of the magic of coffee :-)
