I attended last night the18th birthday celebration of the daughter of my classmate in high school. It is true that the foods were really tempting but I was able to hold my promise that I won’t indulge that much and I did. Thankfully, there are many attendees and my focus was not on the food in the table but with greetings and small talks to old familiar faces during high school days that were also there (this tip was mentioned by @rsa101 ).
Majority of the visitors were also teens mostly classmates and friends of the debutante. We just give them the night and we adults have also our time in our table talking about lives, things in the past, and plans on the upcoming alumni homecoming next month.

It was like a two generations meeting. And in fact, it is two generations that don't see life the same way. Two generations that don't like the same kind of music, or that don't share the same life interests, etc. You guys did well to give them the night and sit aside talking on a table. Some parents in this kind of situation would misbehave by leading the party or by trying to impose their tastes on teens. I really appreciate what you did by letting them enjoy themselves alone. But out of that, how did you find the teens way to have fun during the party?
