I am not one to take compliments either but I am not sure its because you are hard on yourself, more about being somewhat shy and not the attention seeker.

I'm way too hard on myself, but was born this way I believe. I wouldn't change one thing, however. Being hard on myself gave me excellent grades, a fabulous career, and a happy and loving life. My family and friends tell me to ease up, but I don't want to. lol

I am both, easy when needed and hard when needed. I think it depends on the situation.

I'm easier now, but when I was in the Navy a shrink diagnosed me as having "rigid perfectionist personality disorder."
