Happy Thanksgiving to All

Eugene, Oregon
November 22, 2018 11:39am CST
It is a special day for most in the US today. We leave soon for Portland to spend this rainy day with my daughter and her Chihuahua, then back home tomorrow. I was reminded that 55 years ago today was my first day as a draftee in the US Army and I am even thankful for that two year experience and the friends I made then. This is also the anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. I am grateful for the hope he and his brother Robert held out for the world. It is my wish that we keep that hope alive. Have a great day to all.

Happy Thanksgiving James! I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful holiday! It is cold and rainy here in my part of Florida, but I have the warmth of my family to make it an enjoyable day! Gonna load myself up on lots of turkey today to build up my strengths and energy for Black Friday shopping tomorrow! I wonder how different our country would look today if Kennedy had not been assassinated and was able to continue his Camelot dream for America?

Oh yes, Jeff, that has been on my mind ever since. I think that RFK would have carried it forward, but I believe reactionary elements in this country do not want that kind of government, preferring the kind we have now. Cold and rainy here too Jeff. Pouring rain on the interstate going and coming.

@JamesHxstatic It was a nice day here today, but heavy rains are supposed to move in overnight, so we'll see how tomorrow shapes up.

@Tampa_girl7 I'm glad you asked that. I thought it was a painting. I had no idea it was a quilt. So beautiful!

Yes, Marie, It is the bridge built across the Bosporus Straight in Istanbul,Turkey. When Anne moved to Turkey in the 1960s, you could only cross by ferry. The bridge opened in 1973. I think that I wrote about it before.

So you had your first day as a draftee the day that JFK was assassinated. He was may be the most loved US President outside the United States. Belated Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family James.

He had so much promise and was so level headed too. Now we have a bozo who has neither.

Enjoy your time away. I'm guessing that is another of Anne's quilts. It's beautiful.

Thanks Judy! I think I wrote about this one. It is about the first bridge across the Bosporus Strait, connecting old and new Istanbul.

They do say that people who have served together become close like brothers after all they have been through. What is the photo of that you posted? It is lovely!

Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, so the day of the week varies. In 1963, Thanksgiving was on November 28th. I was in line to get my first Army haircut the day JFK was shot. I heard about it then.
