most indonesia, or may be asian too, have been having tradition using squat toilet since centuries ago. when westerner came he, we adapted some, including having seat toilet. but the late still haven't won (in other word, never) the squat toilet.
most indonesian still use it, even in many public space, it is very often have squat toilet as an alternative accompanied with water and scoop, not only tissue.
at my workplace we have seat and squat toilet too. i sometimes use seat toilet, but never use tissue, but water and scoop, the local way.

I used squat toilets when I travelled in Asia. The hotels had seat toilets, but many other places that squat toilets. In my own country we use seat toilets, but squat toilets also exist some places in Europe. I have seen that when I travelled in other European countries.

@nawala123 Yes, it would be a good idea to have both. The first time I saw a squat toilet (somewhere in the Europe) I didn't know what it is was and I asked my mother how to use it.

When I went to Japan back in the 70's there were places in the rural areas that we visited that had squat toilets...I prefer seat toilets I grew up with.

I heard that squatting is much better for a person to go.
I'm a westerner so not sure how true that is.
I know lots of people by the stools to fit around the potty.

I can only use the seat toilet in the house not a public one...in public places I prefer squat toilets....it's better to be safe than sorry.

My boss went to Hong Kong last year and brought back pictures of the toilets (that's a very unreal concept to Westerners, especially Americans, where we pad our toilet seats for extra comfort! ). His tour guide/interpreter said a lot of Westerners take photos of the squat toilets.
